Former Alabama Football Player Arrested

This time it is a former Alabama football player who was arrested.

Former UA defensive tackle Brandon Ivory and another man were arrested yesterday on charges of home invasion and burglary of a home in Tuscaloosa.

According to a Tuscaloosa Police Department spokesman, police were called to a house on 17th Avenue around 8 AM yesterday to respond to a burglary in progress. The two residents were inside the home at the time, and one of the victims had been assaulted according to the report.

Tuscaloosa police believe the two alleged burglars went to the back door and kicked it in. They then proceeded to rob the residents of cash and electronics, according to the statement. The victims said one suspect was armed with an assault rifle, and the other with a knife.

Afterward the suspects fled the scene in a 2003 Gray Toyota Corolla which was located very quickly, bringing the two suspects into custody quickly. Officers took the two into custody at their residence, where the stolen items and weapons were recovered.

Both men were taken to the police department where they were questioned, then charged on two counts of first-degree burglary.

Ivory played for UA as a defensive tackle beginning in 2010. He started every game for the Tide in 2013. He was signed to play for the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in May.

The other man has been identified as Nicholas Gerald Gibson III. Both men were placed in the Tuscaloosa County jail, with a bond of $120,000 each having been set.

Tide Swimming & Diving Are Scholar All-America Teams

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) have honored the University of Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams as Scholar All-America teams.

Alabama head coach Dennis Pursley said, "Academic excellence is a top priority for us and we believe that it goes hand in hand with excellence in the pool. "We are proud of the fact that our students have maintained their high academic standards while climbing the rankings in the pool."

In order to be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher as well as having participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.

Both the men's and women's  Crimson Tide team grade point averages over 3.0 while 22 swimmers and divers earned Scholar All-America honors for the 2014-15 season. Only four women's teams finished in the top 30, and Bama was one. Only Purdue, which finished 30th, posted a better team GPA than the Crimson Tide's 3.560.

The Bama men were one of five teams that finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships and post a team grade point average better than 3.10. Of that number, only Stanford and Michigan posted a better team GPA than the Crimson Tide's 3.13.
