Alabama Softball

The Alabama softball 14-0 win over Mississippi Valley State last night was the 1,000th victory in program history. The Tide is just the fourth team in the SEC to reach the historic milestone.

Crimson Tide head baseball coach PATRICK MURPHY said, "It's special to see this milestone, especially for a program that’s only 20 years old. This team was part of history tonight. Everyone tonight gets their names in the record books."

Alabama's 14-0 win on Tuesday night came in just five innings.

The record for the Crimson Tide now stands at 1,000-295 (.772) all-time.

Crimson Tide Baseball

The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team  swept Alcorn State yesterday in a doublehead at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Alabama won the first game 8-5, and took the second by a score of 8-0 in seven innings.

Alabama is now 18-11 overall on the season.

Alabama head baseball coach MITCH GASPARD said, "Game one was a rough one to get. I told the team that those are games where you've just got to find a way win. It wasn't pretty by any stretch, and we broke down in some areas and fell behind late. CHANDLER (AVANT) gets the big hit to put us on top. (MATT) FOSTER) had a good, clean inning. THOMAS (BURROWS) had a solid inning to close it out.

"It made it better the way we responded in game two. We came out and JAKE (HUBBARD) gave us a really good start. We scored some runs and played really clean defensively."

Sydney Littlejohn Honored

Alabama softball junior pitcher SYDNEY LITTLEJOHN has been named Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week. The honor comes from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Littlejohn is only the Tide's fifth player to earn the honor, and the first since JACLYN TRAINOR won it in March 2014.

Head softball coach PATRICK MURPHY said, "Sydney was terrific last week against two of the best teams in the country. She has matured tremendously as a player and person and we are seeing the results of that on the field. Her hard work in the bullpen with our pitching coach STEPHANIE VanBRAKLE is certainly paying off."
