The University of Alabama women's basketball team (7-1) posted another huge win on Sunday afternoon, handily disposing of the Alcorn State Braves 97-50. Six Crimson Tide players finished in double figures yesterday in the game played inside Foster Auditorium.

Sophomore Quanetria Bolton recored her second double-double of the season, scoring 14 points in the contest while pulling down 10 rebounds. Sophomore Hannah Cook and freshman C'Coriea Foy also pumped in 14 points each. Up next was senior Nikki Hegstetter with 13 points, sophomore Karyla Middlebrook with 12 points and junior Breanna Hayden with 10 points.

Alabama head coach Kristy Curry was full of praise for her team, saying, "I love this team and how they respond. I asked them two days ago about the 1 percent rule. If every day we give 1 percent more energy, effort in what we are doing throughout the month, get 1 percent better every day, we will be prepared for January. This team is on a mission. This team is excited and motivated."

While the Tide only led 18-16 at the end of the first period they came on strong in the second with a 32-point scoring burst. The third quarter continues to be big for Bama outscoring State 25-6.

Overall stats for the Crimson Tide looked good. While the 48.1 percent from the field for the first half wasn't bad, Bama poured it on in the second hitting 56.8 percent. The Tide limited Alcorn State to just 31.7 percent shooting for the game. The Tide led in rebounds as well, 50-38 and forced 28 turnovers providing 29 points.

The Crimson Tide plays the Georgetown Hoyas this Saturday, December 12th. Game time is noon CT and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

Annual Awards Banquet Held

It was a time of celebration, recognition and just plain fun for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team last night. Alabama held its annual awards banquet Sunday evening at The Cahaba Grand Conference Center.

A large group of recipients and guests were on hand for the program. Head coach Nick Saban spoke to the group that included the football team itself, coaching staff, administrative staff as well as football/athletic support staff. The coach talked about and recapped the 2015 season highs and lows, as well as giving an overview of the goals for the upcoming semifinal game in the College Football Playoff Semifinal game in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. The game, incidentally, is a venue in which the Tide has played this season: AT&T Stadium.

Four captains were named on Sunday as representatives for the 2015 football team. They are seniors Jake Coker, Ryan Kelly and Reggie Ragland. Also named was junior running back Derrick Henry.

Top 25 College Football Playoff Poll
__________

Alabama vs Michigan State December 31st

Five Southeastern Conference schools are in this week's CFP Top 25. They are ALABAMA (2)
Ole Miss (12), Florida (19), LSU (20) and Tennessee (25). Incidentally, the Crimson Tide played all of the other four SEC schools in the poll.

Alabama will meet Michigan State in one of the National Semifinal games, with Clemson and Oklahoma meeting in a rematch of last year's non-CFP bowl.

The Tide and Spartans play at 7 p.m. CT on December 31st at AT&T Stadium. This will be Alabama's second appearance in this venue this season, but instead of Wisconsin the Tide will face a team that Nick Saban coached earlier in his career in the Spartans. (Bama won the season opener 35-17 over then-20th-ranked Wisconsin.)

The Tide and Spartans have met only one time before, and that being in the Capital One Bowl at the close of the 2010 season. Bama came out on top of that one 49-7 and ended the season with a record of 10-3.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban said, "We know what kind of physical, tough teams they have at Michigan State, and it will be a real challenge for our team.

This will be the eighth all-time trip to the Cotton Bowl Classic for the University of Alabama, posting a record of 2-4 (actual 3-4). The Tide posted a victory in their first one against Texas A&M with a 29-21 score. Their last trip came in 1973 with a loss to Texas 17-13.
