University of Alabama running back Derrick Henry is one of three finalists for the 2015 Heisman Trophy Award. The other two finalists are Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Henry has carried the ball 339 times this season for the ALABAMA Crimson Tide. He has rushed for 1,986 yards this season, breaking the Bama rushing record as well as the SEC record in back-to-back weeks. Records have fallen throughout the season, with five falling in the Iron Bowl alone. During the regular season Henry set the Tide's single-season record for rushing touchdowns at 22. Then for emphasis he punched another one in during the Southeastern Conference Championship Game, which the Tide handily won 29-15 and was named the MVP of the game. He has also set the Alabama single-season record for 200-plus rushing yards at four. His impressive season rushing average is 5.9 yards per carry.

Following the announcement this evening, Henry said, "It is a very special honor for me to be selected as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. First I want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity. The Heisman Trophy has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid and the chance to go to New York as a finalist is amazing. But none of this would be possible without my coaches and teammates. The offensive line, the quarterback, wide receivers and tight ends have done an unbelievable job all season and our coaches always put us in a position to be successful."

The Yulee, Florida native is the fifth Crimson Tide player to be invited to New York since 2009 for the presentation of the Heisman Award, the most of any school in the past seven years. Running back Mark Ingram was Alabama's first Heisman Trophy winner, coming in 2009. Running back Trent Richardson was a finalist in 2011, quarterback A.J. McCarron (runner-up) in 2013 and wide receiver Amari Cooper in 2014.
