Alabama Football Practice

Yesterday was the final practice for the University of Alabama football team before its first weekend scrimmage, scheduled for today. The Tide held their practice in shorts, helmets and shoulder pads yesterday for approximately two hours on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.

We've heard from Alabama head coach Nick Saban, as well as other defensive coaches, on the need to step up the game on defense after a couple of down seasons, especially last season's defensive performance. This year the coaches are looking for a better pass rush, fewer long play completions by the other side, and more take-aways. Bama is working on stripping the ball, sacks, and interceptions in practices this year.

A little good news to report on the injury/recovery situation on the team. Redshirt freshman Marlon Humphrey, who had suffered with a pulled muscle, seemed to be pretty much back up to full speed at yesterday's practice. He was working with the second group of defensive backs.

The team worked on fundamentals and basics in preparation for their first scrimmage scheduled for today, and slated to begin at 1 p.m. CT inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. It has been reported that the quarterback battle could become a lot clearer after today's scrimmage, even if not decided. Both Jake Coker and Blake Barnett have been looking good.  The Crimson Tide will enjoy Sunday off and won't return to practice until Monday.
