University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban has suspended offensive
lineman Alphonse Taylor indefinitely following a weekend arrest for DUI. Saban issued a statement concerning Taylor yesterday afternoon.
Taylor was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with DUI. He was released on $1000 bond.
Saban's statement read, "We are very disappointed any time a player makes a choice that leads to this kind of behavior. We are still in the process of gathering all of the details on the situation, but from the football standpoint, Alphonse Taylor has been indefinitely suspended from the team."
Taylor was a starter for the Crimson Tide last season as well as being a preseason second-team All-SEC selection at last week’s SEC Media Days. He had, however, been moved to the second team by Saban during the spring because of weight and conditioning issues. Saban had told Taylor to get the weight off if he wanted to return to the first team.
