Remember the hit song by the rock group, Queen, "Another One Bites The Dust"? Appears another University of Alabama Crimson Tide football player is transferring. He is freshman outside linebacker Christian Bell. Speculation is that the departure of the former Hoover High School standout is due to the depth at his position, and higher rated players coming in, though that has not, of course, been actually confirmed.

Bell, who stands at 6' 2" and weighs in at 245 pounds was a three-star recruit and the No. 19 weak-side defensive end in the last recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He had gray shirted last year and enrolled at the Capstone this past January.

This now makes four players to make the decision to leave Alabama football just since spring practice ended. They are Bell, linebacker Adonis Thomas, defensive back Maurice Smith and defensive back Shawn Burgess-Becker.

Think Alabama's starting quarterback choice is a problem now, just wait until 2020. For the second time in mere weeks, The University of Alabama has extended an offer to play college football to a junior high schooler. Marietta, Georgia standout Harrison Bailey received an offer this weekend to play for the Crimson Tide.

Bailey is a 6' 3", 175-pound quarterback prospect. He also holds numerous other offers, including from Florida, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, North Carolina and Syracuse.

The other junior high schooler to receive a Bama offer is Connecticut quarterback Drew Pyne.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama Director of Athletics Bill Battle has announced that he has completed the latest in a series of treatments for multiple myeloma. He reports that he is feeling just great and is very much  looking forward to returning to work, on a limited basis, very soon.

Battle underwent a stem cell transplant on June 27th under the supervision of Sagar Lonial, M.D., a world-renowned expert in the research and treatment of multiple myeloma, at The Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant Center at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. He was released from the hospital on July 8th but was still getting outpatient care for approximately two week. Battle has now been approved to return to his home in Tuscaloosa.

Dr. Lonial commented, "Mr. Battle had an uneventful transplant course and is recovering well, as we expected. He should be returning home to Alabama soon."

Battle underwent an autologous stem cell transplant, a transplant using his own stem cells, and was released from the hospital on Friday, July 8th. He has been recovering on an outpatient basis with his son, Mike, and his family at their home in Marietta, Georgia, while awaiting his formal release from treatment at Emory.

Battle made a statement concerning his condition, saying, "I have completed this latest phase of my fight against multiple myeloma, and the outcome was extremely positive. My wife, Mary, a licensed oncology nurse, has been an amazing force in every stage of this fight over the last two years. I was fortunate to get early detection, aggressive treatment by the best doctors, and entered this recent phase in reasonably good physical shape. All of those factors were vital to this positive outcome. However, maybe the most important factor has been the outpouring of thoughts and prayers from around the country. It has been overwhelming, and Mary and I are most appreciative.

"At this time, multiple myeloma is incurable but is very treatable. Great progress has been made over the past few years and more is expected in the future. Longer life and better quality of life is expected from those with early detection, with good fitness levels, and the autologous transplant. The transplant process pretty much wipes out the bone marrow and the immune system temporarily, but rapidly regrows. The risk for infections diminishes over time and as the patient recovers from the process."
