Alabama football offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin joined the Crimson Tide staff on January 10, 2014 as the OC and quarterbacks coach. For all Kifin has done for Bama, he was selected as a finalist for the 2014 Frank Broyles Award, which goes to the country’s best assistant coach.

One of Kiffin's first responsibilities as the new guy running the quarterbacks and the entire offense was to select a quarterback and develop him for the 2014 season. That quarterback was Blake Sims. Sims was asked to fill the shoes of three-year starter A.J. McCarron who had graduated and left to play in the National Football League. Sims set a new school record in passing yards with 3,487 yards, while leading the Tide to 3,837 yards of total offense. He completed 64.5 percent of his passes, and was ranked fourth nationally in total QBR and seventh in passing efficiency.

He then had to pull another rabbit out of his hat in 2015, developing senior quarterback Jake Coker who led the Tide to their 16th National Championship. Coker threw for 3,110 yards (the second-most in school history) with 21 touchdowns.

Kiffin graduated from Fresno State in 1998 after playing quarterback for three seasons for the Bulldogs (1994-96). He began his coaching career as a student assistant at Fresno State under Pat Hill in 1997 and 1998, then went to Colorado State in 1999 as offensive line assistant. Kiffin spent the 2000 season as defensive quality control assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars under Tom Coughlin.
He attended Bloomington (Minnesota) Jefferson High, where he played football, basketball and baseball.

Kiffin has two daughters, Landry and Presley, as well as one son, Knox.
