The University of Alabama football team completed its final practice on Thursday afternoon to get ready for this Saturday's meeting with the No. 15 Florida Gators in Atlanta. The Crimson Tide put in approximately 90-minutes in shells at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility. Alabama was especially diligent in the special teams aspect of this week's championship game. Final touches were also added to the game plan the coaching staff has prepared in order to capture the 2016 SEC crown.

Though still recovering from a hamstring injury, Marlon Humphrey is expected to play, according to Alabama head coach Nick Saban. Saban had earlier commented that Humphrey has done "pretty well."

This will be the 11th championship game for the Tide and the 12th for the Gators.

CBS will broadcast the game, and Verne Lundquist will be making his final call for an SEC championship. Gary Danielson will provide analysis while Allie LaForce will work the sidelines. The game is scheduled for a 3:10 p.m. CT kickoff from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Alabama won the last championship game, defeating Florida 29-15 in 2015.

Another big honor has been bestowed upon one of the University of Alabama student athletes. This one from the Crimson Tide men's basketball team. Bama graduate transfer Corban Collins has been named a nominee for the 2017 National Association of Basketball Coaches' (NABC) Allstate Good Works Team. This award honors an outstanding group of student-athletes who represent the sport's finest in the areas of community service and leadership among their peers.

Collins is in his first season with the Crimson Tide, and is a member of of the Southeastern Conference Men's Basketball Leadership Council. This council consists of one male and one female representative from each school in the Southeastern Conference and provides student-athletes with additional opportunities to engage with campus leaders and conference office staff. Though only in his first season, Collins has already made an impact in the Tuscaloosa community. During his limited spare time, he has volunteered to help locally at food shelters, and has also visited elementary schools, where he read to the children and talked about the importance of education.

This is not the first nomination for Collins for this award. It is, in fact, his second. Last year while at Morehead State, he was actively involved in the community, and also spent a portion of his summer in New Zealand with Athletes in Action, a Christian organization known for using sports as a platform to help people answer questions of faith.

Collins has made the most of his time at the Capstone, having started each of the Tide's six games. He is second on the team in assists per game (2.0) as well as third in scoring average with 8.8 ppg.

Collins led Morehead State in scoring (11.0 ppg) on his way to earning a spot on the 2015-16 Ohio Valley Conference second team prior to transferring to Alabama.

The Allstate Good Works Teams is now in its fifth year, and  recognizes  student-athletes at all levels of collegiate basketball for their service and community involvement off the court. Two special voting panels will select 10-member teams from both the NABC and WBCA, comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from Divisions II, III and the NAIA. Award-winners will be invited to the 2017 NABC Convention and the Final Four in Phoenix to participate in a community service project.

The final award winners are slated to be announced in February.

Saban Speaks Briefly About The Florida Gators

University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban spoke a little to the press about the Crimson Tide and the upcoming 2016 Southeastern Conference Championship Game on Saturday in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Saban said that cornerback Marlon Humphrey has been practicing and that he has done "pretty well" as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury incurred during the second half of the Crimson Tide's 30-12 victory over the Auburn Tigers this past Saturday.

Speaking of injuries, Saban says that the team has contingency plans for injuries, which are prepared early each week for that particular game in the event of personnel loss due to injury or for any circumstance that may arise. He spoke of necessary reps for individuals in order to be ready to play, whether a starter or backup, should they be called upon.

Talking about the Florida defense, Saban said that the Gators have had "one of the top defenses in the country all season long."

Concerning Florida quarterback Austin Appelby, Saban said he is "a really smart player," and that the young man's struggles this year have been a result of pass protection problems. He said that other than that Appelby has "made a lot of good plays for them."

The Alabama Crimson Tide heads to Atlanta today for tomorrow's SEC championship matchup with the Gators.
