The University of Alabama football team put in another 90 minutes of work in shells on Monday afternoon at the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility. It was practice number four of seven prior to taking off for Christmas and 11 prior to the semifinal game at the end of the month.

Once again defensive lineman Dakota Ball wasn't on the practice field due to the hunting injury suffered last week. Ball was, however, inside the Alabama football complex. The finger still, of course, is giving him problems but seems to be doing an exceptional job dealing with it.

After missing several workouts due to a muscle pull, defensive back Tony Brown was again seen practicing yesterday, his second consecutive practice. His recovery seems to be coming along just fine.

The cast on Reuben Foster's hand is shrinking. Recovery from his injury continues and he seems in good spirits and say he will be "alright."

ESPN production and air crew were on hand yesterday prepping for promos and such for the upcoming semifinal playoff game.

The College Football Playoff Semifinal game between the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and the number four Washington Huskies will be played in the Chick-fil-A-Peach Bowl at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, December 31st. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN beginning at 2 p.m. CT, with Joe Tessitore handling play-by-play duties, Todd Blackledge providing the color commentary/analysis and then Holly Rowe will be roaming the sidelines with reports and breaking information throughout the contest.

Alabama enters the contest as the Number One team in the nation with a perfect 13-0 record, the Southeastern Conference Champion and the defending National Champions. Washington enters the contest at 12-1, the Number Four team in the country, and the Pac-12 Champion.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two programs, with the Crimson Tide having won all four previous contests. The most recent game between the pair was in the 1986 Sun Bowl which Bama won handily, 28-6.

Alabama Women's Basketballs Moves To 10-1

The University of Alabama women's basketball team are looking strong this season, improving its overall record to 10-1 yesterday with an 84-63 victory over McNeese State. This was the first game for the Crimson Tide in the inaugural Patrick Harris Classic being played at Northwest Florida State's Raider Arena in Niceville, Florida. This is Bama's best start to a season since back in 2000.

Alabama women's basketball head coach Kristy Curry said, "We are honored to be here. This is a great cause for a great coach and a great man." (Harrington was the head coach at Northwest Florida State before passing away in a car accident two years ago.) "McNeese was very motivated and played near-perfect at times, but our kids really pulled through."

It was Crimson Tide junior Meoshonti Knight leading five players in double figures with a season-high 20 points, while freshman Ashley Knight had a big night with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds in addition to six blocks. Her six blocks ties for the third most in a single game in Alabama women's basketball history. Also scoring in double figures for the Bama belles was freshman Jordan Lewis with 11 points and juniors Quanetria Bolton and Hannah Cook with 10 points apiece. Junior Mercedes Rogers led the McNeese State Cowgirls with 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Crimson Tide was 15-of-39 from the field in the first half hitting a 38.5 percent clip, but the second half exploded for a tremendous 57.1 percent shooting spree hitting on 16-of-29 from the floor. The Cowgirls finished the game at 36.5 percent, 23-of-63. Bama won the boards' battle 48-32 and was able to outscore State in the paint 48-22.

Curry commented, "At one point in the third quarter we just put it together and willed ourselves. NeNe really gave us a boost off the bench. And AK (Ashley Knight). I mean what can you say? To finish with 16 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks in 23 minutes was just phenomenal. Our bench, from NeNe, to AK, to Coco (Knight), was big, big, big for us tonight. Meo was unstoppable. It was just a good all-around team effort."

Alabama will close out play at the Patrick Harrington Classic tonight taking on UTEP at 7 p.m. CT.

Bama Men's Basketball Ready For Rocket City Classic

UA Photo

Monday was "Liftoff Day" for the Rocket City Classic in Huntsville, Alabama yesterday, and the Alabama men's basketball team was there to participate. The Alabama Crimson Tide will battle Arkansas State on Wesdnesday night at Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Bama's arrival in Huntsville yesterday morning began with a big welcome by dignitaries from the city of Huntsville. Among those greeting the Tide were city councilman Mark Russell, Space & Rocket Center executive director, Dr. Deborah Barnhart and Huntsville mayor Tommy Battle, who, incidentally, is the cousin of Alabama's Director of Athletics, Bill Battle.

Immediately following the ceremony, the Bama student-athletes, head coach Avery Johnson as well as other coaches and staff joined the children and leaders from the Boys & Girls Club of North Alabama for a tour of one of the state's top attractions. Once the tour concluded, the team took a group photo with the kids and the Space & Rocket Center tour guides, as well as autographed posters for the entire group.
