Crimson Tide Soccer Shuts Out Campbell 4-0

The Crimson Tide now improves their overall record to 3-0. This is the first time since the 2012 season that Alabama has started the season with three match victories.
Alabama head soccer coach Wes Hart was pleased with his team's overall performance, saying, "I think there is a genuine belief within the team that we can score goals. Lacey and Abbie are doing a great job of putting the ball in the back of the net, and I think those two have really shown the ability, attitude and mentality to go score goals. Once we settled into [last night's] game we were okay, but the first couple minutes were shaky as we came up with a huge save early from Kat Stratton. Her save kind of sparked the team, and after that first minute or two we kind of found our way. It's a different game if she (Stratton) doesn't make that save early. She came up with the save when we needed it rather than having to crawl our way back from a 1-0 deficit to start the game."
The Tide led 3-0 going into the half, then came back to record another goal in the second on eight shots.
Boswell commented, "I think we had the right mentality. We just work really hard in practice and I think it paid off tonight. Our defense did really well [last night], and I think it helps a lot offensively when we pitch a shutout on defense."
Next up for the Tide is a trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee to do battle with the Chattanooga Mocs. The game is set for tomorrow at noon CT at Finley Soccer Stadium.

Bama Baseball's Cobie Vance Is Recognized

Baseball America has selected University of Alabama sophomore baseball player Cobie Vance as the fourth-best player in the Texas Collegiate League for summer 2016. He played 38 games for the Acadiana Cane Cutters, ranking seventh in the league in batting with a .303 average (44-145). He hit six doubles, two triples with 22 RBIs and scored 23 runs. In addition he had nine stolen bases and 16 walks.
Of Vance, Baseball America said, "Alabama’s everyday second baseman as a freshman this spring, Vance showed some impressive versatility over the summer with Acadiana, handling himself well at second base, third base and shortstop. An unsigned 16th-round pick in 2015, he stands just 5-foot-8 and while he doesn’t have any flashy tools, he can do a lot of things well. Vance shows a discerning eye at the plate and has a knack for being a pesky out. He makes plenty of contact, and although he’s not a burner, he’s fast enough to be a threat on the bases, stealing nine in 38 games in the TCL while batting .303/.376/.372."
This past season Vance was one of just two Bama players to start every contest, finishing the season second in hits, with 58, and walks with 25.

Crimson Tide Football Continues Prep Work
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban rewarded a trio of hard-working walk-ons at the conclusion of the Friday practice. Saban announced to the team that walk-ons Truett Harris (Senior TE, Brentwood, Tenn.), Brandon Moore (Senior TE, Cincinnati, Ohio) and Levi Wallace (Junior DB, Tucson, Ariz.) have been awarded scholarships.
During the media view period it should be noted that, while Blake Barnett was at the session, it was Cooper Bateman, Jalen Hurts and David Cornwell doing the work. Bateman and Hurts were throwing to the receivers while Cornwell threw to the tight ends.
Alphonse Taylor has managed to get rid of the black, no-contact jersey and was back practicing.
Receiver Cam Sims is still in the sleeve but is showing progress.
This was Bama's 23rd of 28 scheduled practices before the season-opener with USC on Saturday, Sepember 3rd at the AdvoCare Classic. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Chris Fowler, Kirk Herstreit and Sam Ponder will be handling the call.

Dr. Pepper Guy Makes CFP Selections
Larry Culpepper announcing his CFP picks Photo Credit: MarketMeNot.com |
You know the guy in those Dr. Pepper commercials? The one that sells Dr. Pepper in the football stadium stands, yet somehow ends up many times on the field or other places one would not normally expect a vendor to appear? The guy that seems to know all the radio and television sports announcers, gurus, analysts or prognosticators?
Larry Culpepper. That guy. The Dr. Pepper spokesman. The guy that invented the college football playoffs and came up with all the [good] rules in college football.
Well, Larry, being the college football expert that he is, has come up with his own four personal picks for who will be in the College Football Playoff games come this season's end. Larry has chosen Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Nebraska. His announcement came on ESPN's College Football Live.
Write it down. Take it to the bank. Put your money on it.
Well, probably best not to do any of the three.
