Alabama head basketball coach Avery Johnson announced yesterday the hiring of Scott Pospichal as new assistant men's basketball coach. Pospichal has over 30 years of coaching experience that includes AAU, junior college, and high school.

Johnson said, "Scott is a legendary AAU coach and we are very excited for him to join our program at the University of Alabama. During his time with the Texas Titans, he has helped develop numerous players who have went on to do great things at the college and professional levels. He is an excellent coach who specializes in the offensive part of the game and is a great communicator.

"We went through an extensive, vigorous hiring process to bring in the person who we felt would best help us in every aspect of our program, focusing on the areas of recruiting, coaching and player development," Johnson continued. "There is no doubt in my mind that Scott fits this mold perfectly and will be a tremendous asset to our program."

Pospichal commented, "I feel like I've received the golden ticket for this opportunity to be the assistant basketball coach at the University of Alabama. Coach Johnson and I have had a relationship dating back for a few years now. I have always believed in him so much. This is a tremendous opportunity to work with him and work at an iconic university and terrific program like Alabama. I am absolutely thrilled out of my mind to get there and get started."

Pospichal has been married to his wife Janet for 30 years. The couple has four children.

Mitch Gaspard Returns For 7th Season

RollBamaRoll.com reports that Alabama head baseball coach Mitch Gaspard will return for his seventh season to captain the men's baseball team.

Many fans have been calling for Gaspard's resignation, or for Athletic Director Bill Battle to pull the plug. The 2015 season was a difficult one for the Crimson Tide, forced to play all their home games some 50 miles away at the Hoover Met. Perhaps this was the reason for Battle to settle for another season of Gaspard at the helm.

Some believe the season would have been different enough to get Bama into post-season play had it not been for the ongoing construction of Sewell-Thomas Stadium. As it was, Bama baseball finished the season with a very disappointing 32-28 overall record, 12-18 in the SEC. Concerning Bama's "home" games, the Tide went 19-15. Most fans believed this would be a year to return to post-season play.

Gaspard's contract is set to expire at the end of next season. Most likely next season's performance will determine whether or not a contract extension could be expected.  A meeting with Battle assured Gaspard that the coaching staff would remain in place through the 2016 season.

Gaspard's record at Alabama is 202-167 overall in his seven seasons. That's a .547 winning percentage.
