Kyle Overstreet Drafted By San Diego Padres; 1934 Football National Championship Team; Bama's Celia Jimenez Delgado Starts For Spain In World Cup; 2016 Crimson Tide Football Commits

Kyle Overstreet Drafted By San Diego Padres

The University of Alabama baseball team is sending another one to the bigs. And I kind of have a soft spot in my heart for this one since I lived in Boaz and Albertville, Alabama for quite a few years.
Alabama catcher/second baseman Kyle Overstreet was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft yesterday.

Though Overstreet mostly played second base for Bama, and was on the SEC's All-Defensive Team as a second baseman for this season, his draft position is listed as catcher for the Padres. He did play some behind the plate his senior season, but his primary position for the past three season has been at second.

Overstreet had 41 runs, 12 doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 38 total RBIs in 2015 for the Crimson Tide. He hit .281 on the year.

Overstreet played his high school baseball at Boaz High School on Sand Mountain. He is the fourth player drafted from UA.

University Of Alabama Football National Championships

We're taking a brief look at each of the National Championships in football owned by the Alabama Crimson Tide. Today we look at Bama's fourth championship team.

The Crimson Tide's 1934 football team was the fourth of the 15 National Championships. The 1934 team was coach by Frank W. Thoma and completed the regular season at 9-0-0. Bama won the Southeastern Conference championship ans was then invited to play Stanford in the January 1, 1935 Rose Bowl. The Tide washed over the Indians 29-13, finishing the season at 10-0-0. The outstanding player of the game was Millard "Dixie" Howell. Those choosing Alabama as the national champion were Dunkel, Williamson, and The Football Thesaurus.

The University of Alabama has had its first player ever to start in the FIFA Women's World Cup. Congratulations of Celia Jimenez Delgado in earning the start for the Spanish National Team in her team's first match of the 2015 FIFA World Cup this week. She started on the backline and played the entire first half.

While Jimenez has not yet played for the Tide she is already signed, sealed and delivered, having transferred from Iowa Western Community College where she's played the past two seasons. During her two seasons at IWCC, she scored 21 goals and contributed 11 assists in 23 games. Jimenez makes her debut with the Crimson Tide this fall.

The Spanish National Team will play again Saturday, taking on Brazil at 4 PM CDT. You can see the match on Fox Sports 1.
