Alabama Again No. 1 In CFP Rankings

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide remains No. 1 in the second week of the College Football Playoff national rankings. Bama has been ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press and the Amway Coaches polls since the preseason, and continues to make its way toward its 17th national championship.

If things were to remain as is, the No. 1 Crimson Tide would face the No. 4 Washington Huskies in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year's eve in Atlanta, Georgia, and the No. 2 Clemson Tigers would play the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.

The Texas A&M Aggies had previously been No. 4, but was defeated last week by the Crimson Tide's opponent of this week, the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Aggies drop to No. 8.

There are five teams from the Southeastern Conference in this week's poll, with three of those five in the Top-10. They are The University of Alabama (1), Texas A&M (8), Auburn (9), LSU (24) and Arkansas (25).

Crimson Tide Revving Up For Mississippi State

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team is preparing to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs just as though State was an undefeated football team. Alabama head football coach Nick Saban has always said to prepare for the team that you are playing this week, and not the team that has played in weeks past. Too often an underdog jumps up and bites the big dog, and now would not be the time to overlook a seemingly less-talented team. Concentration and focus.

The Crimson Tide practiced in full pads for approximately  two hours yesterday afternoon at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields in preparation for this Saturday's divisional contest. Fine-tuning has begun. Game plan-implementation is beginning to happen.

Once again right guard Alphonse Taylor was not spotted yesterday at practice during the media viewing period. He is still recovering from the concussion he received back on October 8th against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Inside linebacker Reuben Foster again practiced with his left hand heavily taped.

The Mississippi State Bulldog rushing attack ranks among the best in the Southeastern Conference, and is averaging 226.9 yards per game. But the Dogs have a defensive front that can stop some teams. State's happens to rank fourth in the SEC in both rush defense as well as tackles for loss.

The Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs, both SEC Western Division teams, will do battle this Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium at 11 a.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN, with Joe Tessitore and Todd Blackledge calling the game from the booth, and with Holly Rowe on the sidelines.

Alabama leads the series 78-18-3, and has won the last eight contest between the pair. The Tide has also won the last four games in Tuscaloosa, outscoring the Bulldogs 125-44. Most recently the Tide defeated State in Starkville last season by a score of 31-6.

In-state rival Auburn comes to Tuscaloosa, Alabama tonight to do battle with the Alabama Crimson Tide volleyball team at Foster Auditorium at 5 p.m. CT. Though Bama lost the last meeting with the Tigers on the Plains in four sets, the Tide is looking to rebound in their own house later today.

Alabama's Krystal Rivers is hot, just 61 kills shy of taking the lead in the Tide soccer history books over current-leader Erin Heffner (2001-04) at 2,090. Rivers is averaging 5.86 kills per set this season, the second-highest rate in program history. Her career average is 4.38 kills per set, third in Alabama history. She leads both the SEC and the nation in kills at 586, and in points at 663.0. She ranks second in the nation and first in the SEC in kills per set at 5.86 per set and points per set at 6.63.

The Crimson Tide is 16-10 overall, 5-8 in the Southeastern Conference while the Tigers record stands at 14-12 overall, 8-5 SEC.
