Greg Goff Expected To Be Named Head Baseball Coach Today

Greg Goff

Multiple sources are reporting that  Louisiana Tech head baseball coach Greg Goff is to be named the next head baseball coach at The University of Alabama. The university has announced there will, indeed, be an official news conference today at 2 p.m. CT, but did not mention this particular announcement.

If it's true, the 45-year old Goff would replace Mitch Gaspard who resigned back on May 30th. This past season Goff led Louisiana Tech (42-20) to an NCAA Regional for the first time since 1987. He compiled a 67-47 record in his two seasons with the Bulldogs.

Before his coaching stint at Louisiana Tech, Goff was the head coach at Campbell from 2008-14, leading the Fighting Camels to the NCAA Tournament in his final season. He was previously head coach at Montevallo from 2004-07, leading the Falcons to the Division II College World Series in 2006 in Montgomery and to a regional the following season.

He has an overall record of 448-307 after 13 years as a head coach.

The arraignment for University of Alabama football players Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones was postponed yesterday and has not as yet been rescheduled.

The Ouachita Parish District Attorney’s office said no further information concerning rescheduling would be available until sometime this afternoon afternoon.

A report from The Decatur Daily’s Alex Byington is saying the assistant district attorney assigned to the case was absent and is expected to be unavailable for at least another week while recovering after undergoing an unspecified surgery.

The pair were arrested on May 17th after police had spotted in in a closed Monroe, Louisiana park around 2:30 a.m. Both were charged with possession of marijuana, but Robinson also picked up a felony charge. He is charged with felony possession of a stolen gun. Jones has a weapons charge also, misdemeanor possession of a firearm in the presence of marijuana.

According to Louisiana law, Robinson could face up to five years in prison if charged and convicted of the felony possession charge.
