Friday is the big day. The ceremony will be held at the College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience in Atlanta, Georgia this Friday, May 6th.

The Alabama Crimson Tide (14-1) was named the national champion and recipient of the trophy by the NFF after Bama defeated the Clemson Tigers (14-1) 45-40 in the College Football Playoff National Championship back on January 11th.

The ceremony marks the official unveiling of the trophy, and Alabama's name will be permanently etched on the fabled archways of the historic trophy. The Tide joins the previous 58 teams who have been recognized since the coveted honor was first bestowed in 1959.

The University of Alabama has added a home game to its 2018 football schedule.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will host The Citadel on November 17, 2018 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The Citadel made the announcement of the contract agreement yesterday afternoon. This will be the first meeting between the two schools, but it doesn't mean The Citadel is not familiar with SEC Football. The Citadel defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks last season by a score of 23-22.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for our program," Citadel head coach Brent Thompson said in a prepared statement. "These games are important for many reasons, and they allow us to provide our cadet-athletes with once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I'm excited that our team will have the experience of playing in front of more than 100,000 fans against one of the premier teams in college football."

This will be the third out-of-conference game The Crimson Tide has scheduled for the 2018 season. Alabama will open the 2018 season in Orlando, Florida against Louisville and will play Arkansas State on September 8th at home.

Bobby Bowden: Saban Or Bear?

Birmingham, Alabama native and former Florida State University head coach Bobby Bowden has weighed in on the question which coach has had the more impressive run as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, the late Paul "Bear" Bryant or current head coach Nick Saban. Bowden made his selection known as the result of a question during an interview on WNSP-FM 105.5 in Mobile.

"That's a pretty good question," Bowden said. "I'd say probably what Nick Saban is doing (is more impressive) because football is more balanced now. I think when coach Bryant came to Alabama in 1958, I think it was unlimited recruiting. You could sign all the kids you wanted, and he's gonna get most of them.

"There was an old saying back in those days, 'He's gonna get his and he's gonna get yours.'"

Bryant won at least a share of 13 Southeastern Conference championships, three national Coach of the Year awards as well as a record six national titles. When he retired, Bryant had 323 wins, 232 of them with the Crimson Tide.

Saban has won five national titles, four of which are with Alabama. He also has a slightly better winning percentage at .854 compared to .824 for Bryant.

Also pointed out is that competition today and the way rankings and opponents are perceived made the road to the postseason more difficult today than in Bryant's day.

Also mentioned by Bowden is the parity in college football today which has occurred as a result of scholarship limitations. He did say, however, that the traditional powers like Alabama still have the edge.

Bowden said, "There are jobs in the United States, you know, especially being right there in Alabama, there are not too many jobs in the country better than Alabama and Auburn across the nation. There's a parity in numbers. Still, the traditional schools have the upper hand, in my opinion."

Bowden continued, "My theory in coaching was very simple, and I still think it is true today. I think it was true back when football started. 'He who gets the best players is gonna win.'" Bowden quickly added, "There's one factor that can change that. A coach can mess that up."

Bowden was born in 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama and played his high school football at Woodlawn High School. He played one semester for the Crimson Tide, but he was lured back to Birmingham by his girlfriend, Ann Estock. Bowden transferred to Howard College, now know as Samford University.

Bowden served as the head coach at several colleges, starting with Samford University, but is best-known as the head coach of the Florida State University Seminoles.

4-Star Raekwon Davis Working To Become Eligible

University of Alabama 2016 signee Raekwon Davis is working, and on course, to be eligible to play for the Crimson Tide this upcoming season. But, he still has work to do.

Davis is a four-star defensive end out of Meridian, Mississippi, and in an interview with SEC Country said that he has qualified to enroll at the University of Alabama this summer. He even increased his ACT score, but still must complete his current school year in a fashion to keep the GPA up.

Davis is one of the Crimson Tide's top signees in the class of 2016.
