2016 Football Commits Looking good; Bama Baseball Begins 3-Game Home Stand Tonight; SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Begin Today; 25 Tide Rowers Qualify To Academic All-Big 12 Team


     The University of Alabama football program has some solid commitments for 2016. Coaches have been beating the bushes and attracted some fine athlete's, and these have verbally stated they are coming to Bama! The list includes two in-state commits.
  • Deonte Brown, OL (6'3", 330), Austin High, Decatur, Ala.
  • T.J. Simmons, WR (6-2, 185), Clay-Chalkville High School, Pinson, Ala.
  • Shyheim Carter, CB (6-0, 185), Kentwood, Kentwood, La.
  • Raekwon Davis, DT (6-7, 315), Meridian High, Meridian, Miss.
  • Jonah Williams, OL (6-5, 283), Folsom High, Folsom, Calif.
  • Brendan Scales, TE (6-4, 230), Lafayette, Ballwin, Mo.
  • Chris Owens, OL (6-3, 312), Lamar High, Arlington, Texas
  • Joshua Perry, DB (6-3, 190), Amite High, Amite, La.
     In addition to the above 2016 commits, Crimson Tide offensive line coach Mario Cristobal has offered a scholarship to sophomore DE DT Corey Bolds from Paramus Catholic in Paramus, New Jersey. He is a 6' 3", 277-pound 2017 prospect.

Baseball

     Tonight begins a three-game series for the University of Alabama men's baseball team. The Crimson Tide faces the No. 7 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores at the Hoover Met to close out the regular season.

     This will be the 149th meeting between the two teams. The series dates back to 1893. Alabama leads the series 91-55-2. Vanderbilt is Alabama's longest-standing Southeastern Conference opponent.

     Game times are 7 PM CDT for both Thursday and Friday, with a 3:30 PM CDT start time for Saturday. Thursday and Friday games can be seen on SECN+, and the Saturday game will air on the SEC Network.

Track & Field

      The University of Alabama track & field team is in Starkville, Mississippi beginning today for the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The tourney runs today through Saturday, May 16. All 14 of the men's teams and 13 women's teams will compete.

     A total of 55 Athletes from UA will compete, 26 of which are women and a total of 29 men. Tide athletes will compete in 35 individual events. Bama will also have four relays, including the men's and women's 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.

Rowing

     The Alabama rowing team has qualified a total of 25 student-athletes to the Academic All-Big 12 Team. 18 have been placed on the First Team, with seven qualifying for the Second Team. This is the Tide's first year competing with the Big 12.

     A total of 11 student-athletes  making the list carry a 4.0 GPA, including Alabama juniors Jacklin Byers and Alexandra Smith.

     In order for one to qualify for the First Team a 3.20 GPA or better must be attained. The Second Team members must have between 3.00 to 3.19 GPA to qualify.
