TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The University of Alabama baseball team hasn't caught many breaks so far this season, and Friday evening was no different. The Crimson Tide suffered another loss, this one to the tune of  7-1 to the No. 21 Arkansas Razorbacks  at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Bama drops to 12-14 overall and 1-6 in Southeastern Conference play.

Speaking of the Arkansas starting pitcher, Alabama Crimson Tide baseball head coach Greg Goff said, "(Blaine Knight) is a guy that can really pitch. He can mix his pitches up and competes at a high level. He was just in total command tonight. I thought we competed with him, if you watch the last few starts he's had. We scored a run there in the first and had some good at-bats. We limited our strikeouts and hit some hard right at him, but he was in control tonight."

Knight (4-1) tossed eight innings of one-run baseball last night. The sophomore right-hander limited the Bama bats to just one run on three hits, while collecting seven strikeouts in his eight innings of work. Following the one run allowed in the bottom of the first inning, Knight went on to retire 19 Tide hitters in a row, while sitting down 22 of the final 23 batters he faced.

Crimson Tide starter Jake Walters (4-3) tossed 4.1 innings of baseball before handing the ball over to freshman Deacon Medders, who threw for another 3.2 innings, allowing one unearned run. The freshman right-hander pitched a career-high in strikeouts with four.

Cobie Vance and Tanner DeVinny both hit for a double in the game, with Vance adding one run scored. Hunter Alexander went one-for-four with an RBI on the evening.

The two teams will again face off tonight at 7 p.m. CT, with the game airing on the SEC Network. Starting for the Tide will be sophomore left-hander Dylan Duartewhile the Razorbacks will go with junior right-hander Trevor Stephan.

Alabama Rowing Captures Three Race Wins Friday

SARASOTA, Florida – It was a strong, solid start to say the least. The University of Alabama rowing rowing team rolled and rowed to begin at this weekend's FIRA Rowing Regatta, winning three of its five races. Additionally the Crimson Tide finished in the top-five in the remaining two races.

UA rowing head coach Larry Davis said, "I thought we did a great job stepping up against good competition in unfavorable conditions. We have faced some adverse conditions this year, most recently in Virginia against Bucknell, and we are learning to handle these conditions better."

Heavy winds and more buffeted the various craft, greatly affecting the course and the way the boats handled, especially the second half, but the Bama ladies handled themselves very well indeed.

"The 4s performed really well today," Davis said. "We'll need to make sure they're on their numbers tomorrow. The other teams started making late pushes in the races and we held them off and today, but we'll need to do the same tomorrow. The Third Varsity 8+ was a very close, back-and-forth race."
Alabama's First Varsity 8+ placed third in its race, posting a 6:38.6 finish trailing UCF and Tulsa. The top three crews were the only ones in the race to finish under 6:40.0. Alabama's Second Varsity 8+ finished fifth in 7:01.36.

"We had a couple errors where we flubbed a few strokes where we could have made a push," Davis said about the First and Second Varsity 8+. "Those probably cost us a few seconds in the 1v8+. The 2v8+ struggled a bit after the first 1,000 meters with choppy water and wind.

"Overall though, it was a really good day against good competition. There are some things we can do better tomorrow but, against a tough slate of competition, I thought we performed really well."
