ST. LOUIS, Missouri – The University of Alabama
gymnastics team has been here before. Many times, in fact. This will be the 35th consecutive time UA gymnastics has been to this grand competition. The Bama Belles will take to the floor in the 2017 NCAA Championships
Semifinals II on tonight at 7 p.m. CT. Both of tonight's semifinals and
Saturday's NCAA Championships Super Six Team Finals will be broadcast
live on the ESPN family of networks.
UA gymnastics head coach Dana Duckworth said, "You never, ever, ever take this opportunity for granted. It doesn't just happen, you have to work extremely hard for it. Every single tenth, every single handstand is a difference maker."
Bama will be competing tonight in Chaifetz Arena. The evening session will also include Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan and Nebraska. Past NCAA champions in that group are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs.
Duckworth continued, "The first night is going to be intense. We are in the evening session with four SEC teams plus Michigan and Nebraska, so we have our work cut out for us. But these ladies are so good and so talented and we are so fired up for the opportunity."
The three top teams from each session will advance to tomorrow's Super Six Team Final. The afternoon session (semifinal session I) begins at noon today and is comprised of Utah, UCLA, Washington, Denver, Oklahoma and Oregon State. Of this group, Utah, UCLA and Oklahoma are past champions.
Alabama has finished no worse than ninth and outside the top four just five times in its first 34 years at the NCAA Championships. This year is the 25th season of the NCAA Super Six Team Final format. In the first 24 years of the Super Six format, Alabama has earned a spot in the final six an NCAA-best 22 times.
UA will start its semifinal session on the floor exercise, then move to the vault and then pick up its first bye of the competition. After that bye, Alabama will close competition on uneven bars and balance beam before finishing its night on its second bye.
Alabama and the rest of the second semifinal session will start off on ESPNU for the first hour, and then move to ESPN for the rest of the competition. The Crimson Tide will begin on the floor exercise, before moving to the vault then a bye, continuing on the uneven bars and balance beam before closing on the beam.

Bama Baseball Falls...Again

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The woes continue for the Alabama baseball team as a total of five errors resulted
in five unearned runs as the Crimson Tide falls to the Texas A&M Aggies 9-5 on
Thursday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Bama is now 14-20 overall and 2-11 in Southeastern Conference play.
Alabama Crimson Tide baseball head coach Greg Goff said, "I never thought our guys quit. We've been fighting and fighting every game. We got down early after
not playing so good, but we came back to take the lead. Tonight was a
situation where we gave up five unearned runs, and you can't do that
anytime, especially in the opener. If we don't give up those unearned
runs, we probably win the game."
Seven of the UA nine starters picked up at
least one hit. Chandler Avant and Kyle Kaufman contributed multi-hit efforts on the night, with Avant finishing two-for-five with a RBI and a run scored, while Kaufman went two-for-four. It was cleanup hitter Hunter Alexander leading Bama in RBIs, finishing with two as part of his one-for-three contest. Chandler Taylor picked up his team-leading ninth home run of the season with a solo-shot to close out his night at one-for-three with two runs scored.
Bama and A&M face off again tonight at Sewell-Thomas Stadium beginning at 6 p.m. CT. Scheduled to start for the Crimson Tide is sophomore lefty Dylan Duarte, while the Aggies put junior righty Corbin Martin on the mound.
