Bama Baseball Takes Pair From Alabama A&M; Tide Softball Ranked 4th/5th In Polls; Track & Field: Women #3, Men #4; Berry Signs With Bama Women's Basketball

       Crimson Tide baseball moved to 25-24 on the season after taking both games of a double-header from Alabama A & M on Monday. Bama took both games with an identical 7-2 score.

     Alabama head baseball coach Mitch Gaspard said, "Alabama A&M has had a good year. They've played some good teams and have played really well, so this was two good wins today. Hopefully we can take this momentum, have a good practice Thursday and Friday, and be prepared for the weekend at Auburn."

     Jay Shaw and Alex Watkin claimed the pair of wins Wednesday. Entering the game in a relief role, Shaw got his first win of the season in game one of the double-header. He pitched just over four inning, allowing only three hits and striking out five batters. In game two Watkins was starting for the first time, pitched seven innings and allowed only one run. Watkins fanned nine of the A&M batters,

     The Alabama Crimson Tide travels to Auburn for a three-game weekend series with the Tigers. Game times are scheduled for a 6 PM CDT on Friday, 3 PM CDT on Saturday, and a 1 PM CDT start time for the Sunday finale.

    The University of Alabama ladies remain at No. 4 in the USA Today/NFCA poll for the second straight week, and fifth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. 

     In the USA Today/NFCA poll it is Oregon at No. 1, followed by Florida, Michigan, Alabama, and Oklahoma in the top five. The top five in the ESPN.com/USA softball poll are Oregon, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Alabama. 

     The Southeastern Conference has nine ranked teams in the national polls. Four SEC teams are in the top 10 in the two polls: Florida (2/2), Alabama (4/5), Auburn (7/6), LSU (8/8), Tennessee (11/12), Missouri (13/13), Georgia (14/16), Texas A&M (22/25), and Kentucky (25/24).

     The 2015 SEC Softball Tournament begins today in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Bama is the No. 3 seed, earning a first round bye before beginning play on Thursday, May 7 at 12:30 PM CDT. The game can be seen on the SEC Network. The Crimson Tide plays the winner of Wednesday's game between Georgia and Ole Miss.

Track & Field

     With its highest ranking ever, the University of Alabama track & field team has moved up to No. 16 in the nation. Bama men's squad has moved to No. 11. This, according to the U.S. Track & Field and the Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I National Team Computer Rankings.

     The Crimson Tide has come on strong as the season has progressed, and congratulations to both the men and women.

     In this week's NCAA South Region rankings, the UA women's team is third, while the Bama men remain at No. 4.

     It should be noted that rankings points are not considered equal with nor derived from the NCAA Championships team points.

Softball Recruiting

     Crimson Tide women's basketball has signed Taylor Berry as a walk on, according to women's basketball head coach Kristy Curry

     In the announcement Curry said, "We are excited to have Taylor join our program as a walk on. She is the epitome of what a student-athlete should be, and we know she will bring a great work ethic and presence to our program in the classroom and on the court."

     Berry is a 5-9 guard hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana. She scored over 2,000 points throughout her career at Mount Carmel Academy.
