Let's make that records in the plural. The Alabama Crimson Tide women's golf team captured the 2016 Mason Rudolph Championship this weekend blowing up the record books. The Bama belles fired a 25-under par 263 on the final day of the tournament to set a new school and tournament record at 39-under par (284-278-263/825) to cruise to the tournament victory at the par-72, 6,451-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
It was Bama sophomore Cheyenne Knight leading the way for the Crimson Tide yesterday setting a new Alabama women's golf low score with a 14-under par 202 (68-67-67) to break previous record of 13-under par (203) set by Kathleen Ekey at the 2008 Crimson Tide Classic.
The Tide set a number of other individual and team records during the weekend tournament. The team score and score vs. par beat the previous records by 11 strokes. The old record was 836 and 28-under par set at the 2010 Tar Heel Invitational. The final round 263 is an 11-shot improvement over the old program record of 274, which was also set at the 2010 Tar Heel Invitational. Saturday's round of 278 now ranks No. 7 all-time for Bama.
Another record-setter was Alabama junior Lakareber Abe shooting a school-record nine-under par 63 on the final day, beating the old record by two shots. Abe moved into a tie for fourth in the final standings. It was Bama sophomore Lauren Stephenson firing a 65 on Sunday to equal the previous low-round record.
An exuberant women's head golf coach Mic Potter said, "The first two days I loved. Today (Sunday), I can't even explain. It's unbelievable to watch what I was watching. I thought we played really well the first day. (Saturday) was a tough day. With the wet conditions, I worried a little bit about our carry distance."
In the individual category, Knight took the medalist honors with her performance. Stephenson (74-68-65/207) and freshman Kristen Gillman (71-68-68/207) tied for second at nine-under par. Abe (71-75-63/209) tied for fourth at seven-under par. It was senior Mia Landegren tied for 24th (75-76-70/221) at five-over par.
Potter continued, "I thought they did a good job of not paying attention to what was going on around them, taking it one shot at a time and doing their job. I just hope we can take that forward and continue. I don't think a lot about (records) but I know one thing, they hung in there and kept their wits about them. It's really nice to see them get that deep under par and not back off but keep going forward."
The Crimson Tide has now captured back-to-back titles at the Mason Rudolph Tournament, one in which they really enjoy playing. Alabama won last year's tournament with a 16-under par final score (282-280-286/848). Lakareber Abe was the individual medalist for the Tide a year ago, with a 12 under par 204 (67-68-69).
The Alabama women's golf team will return to the fairway next weekend at the University of Oklahoma's Schooner Fall Classic September 24-26 in Norman, Oklahoma.

Alabama soccer head coach Wes Hart said, "I am extremely proud of the response our team had after a poor start to the game. I have to commend the effort and quality of the subs who came in and helped us play ourselves back into the game. I am a bit disappointed we didn't secure the win after leading by a goal late in the game, but we will take the point on the on the road against a quality SEC opponent."
Neither team was able to get on the board in the first half. The Crimson Tide had five shots, four shots on goal and two corner kicks in the half. Leading Bama was sophomore Tori Gann as she put up two shots including one on goal, while sophomore Emma Welch contributed one shot which was on goal. Freshmen Keely Cartrett and Logue Shamburger both added one shot apiece in the first half with both of their shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Kat Stratton played her usual great game between the posts, collecting two saves on Kentucky's 15 shots.
It was Alabama sophomore Abbie Boswell putting in the first goal of the game in the second half to give the Crimson Tide a 1-0 advantage. It was just over 10 minutes later that the Wildcats were able to tie up the match.
Niether team was able to score in the two overtime periods.
Next up for Alabama is the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday, September 22nd, at 7 p.m. CT at the Alabama Soccer Complex. The Tide will then host to the Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday, September 25th at 6 p.m. CT.

The latest edition of the Amway Coaches Poll is out, with The University of Alabama Crimson Tide still ranked as the No. 1 team in the land. Several changes have occurred this week as a result of the loses and close games played this past Saturday.
Eight teams from the Southeastern Conference are in Week 4 of the rankings. ALABAMA is No. 1, followed by Georgia (11), Tennessee (12), Texas A&M (13), Florida (16), LSU (17), Arkansas (18) and Ole Miss (21). The only other team from the SEC to receive votes was Auburn, coming in 48th.
The Amway Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at FBS schools. The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the American Football Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.
