Bama Football Gets Big Commit
LB Gary Johnson Commits To Tide
According to Tim Watts with BamaOnline, JUCO linebacker Gary Johnson has given a verbal commitment to play football for NICK SABAN and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Johnson becomes the seventh commitment for the Tide, with the announcement coming yesterday.
Johnson played his high school football at Douglas High School in tiny Douglas, Alabama which is located in Marshall County. The youngster was unable to qualify to play and wound up at Dodge City Community College in Kansas. He had said it was to escape "outside influences" and to concentrate on school and football.
The young man had an outstanding freshman season at Dodge City, recording 133 tackles, with 13.5 of those tackles for a loss. He also recored 8.5 sacks as well as four interceptions. The 6' 1", 225-pounder will be a great addition for Bama.
"Alabama has always been my top school that I wanted to go to," Johnson said. "Defensively, I feel like I can come in and produce and help. As many people know, Alabama is all for getting linebackers to the NFL. That's something I want to do, and I think I can go into Alabama and make it happen."

Game three for Alabama baseball with the seventh-ranked LSU Tigers didn't go quite as well as the first two from Saturday's contests. LSU defeated the Crimson Tide yesterday 7-5 to avoid being swept at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge. Alabama is now 13-6 overall, 2-1 in SEC play thus far in the young season.
Bama head coach MITCH GASPARD said, "You have to look at the big picture - our guys played their tails off
all weekend, and we put ourselves in position to win games. You leave Baton Rouge 2-1 and you win the series. It's a nice addition
to our record, and it is a good way to get SEC play started. Most
importantly, our team is starting to learn what they can be after this
weekend, and there are a lot of positives that we can take away from
this series."
Alabama will face the UAB Blazers this week at Regions Field in Birmingham.

The Alabama Crimson Tide men's tennis team traveled to College Station, Texas over the weekend and fell to the ninth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies 6-1 yesterday at the Mitchell Tennis Center. Alabama falls to 12-8 overall, 3-3 SEC, while the Aggies improve to 12-8 overall, 5-1 SEC.
Tide head coach GEORGE HUSACK said, "A good effort by the guys, and I'm proud for giving it their all today (Sunday). Energy and belief was flowing before and after the doubles, and it continued in singles. We gave ourselves opportunities to win the match, but the Aggies were the better team down the stretch. They haven't lost a home match here in three years, so you know it's no layup to leave College Station with a win."
Husack continued, "Our schedule makes us tougher and hungrier. There's a lot of positive to take from the road trip. We will have big appetites moving forward and eat up the next pair of opportunities that start next weekend."
Alabama hosts Auburn for a three-match affair this weekend. First match will be Friday, March 25th at 5 p.m. CT.
