The University of Alabama baseball team notched another win in the young season by defeating Troy yesterday evening by a 2-1 score. Strong pitching gave the Crimson Tide their seventh victory, improving their record to 7-1 overall on the season. It was junior closer THOMAS BURROWS stepping up big to earn the victory and his 22nd career stop to set the all-time mark for career saves at UA. This was the first win ever at Troy.

Bama held a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth when a pitching change was called for. First MATT FOSTER was brought in for 0.2 of an inning followed by Burrows for the final 1.1 innings. Burrows knocked out all four of the batters he faced, and, in fact, has yet to give up a hit this season in his five appearances on the mound. Burrows also added three strikeouts to his season total.

JOHN KELLER started on the mound for the Tide, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing four hits, one walk and two strikeouts. It was MIKE OCZYPOK and TYLER ADAMS following Keller on the mound combining for 2.0 innings to allow no scores, one hit, one walk and one strikeout.

SAM FINNERTY (1-0) came in contest in the bottom of the seventh to earn his first career win with 1.0 inning of pitching. He allowed one hit and struck out one, then the Bama offense got in gear for two runs in the top of the eighth to take the lead.

Alabama baseball head coach MITCH GASPARD said, "It seemed like we had quite a few opportunities out there, but we found a way to score in the end. I thought our pitching was outstanding as well as Troy's, whose staff did a great job on the mound. It was a well-played game on both sides. We were able to stretch two and they were able to stretch one; that's just part of the game."

The Crimson Tide will now head to Cary, North Carolina for four games when they play in the USA Baseball-Irish Classic this coming weekend. Bama will play Notre Dame on Friday at 4 p.m. CT to begin the weekend. The Tide plays a pair of games on Saturday, with Niagara up first at 11:30 a.m. and then a 3:30 p.m. contest with North Carolina State. Sunday morning the Tide will conclude the Classic with a match up with Brown at 11 a.m. CT.
