Tide Baseball Loses 3-2 To Samford

It was a heartbreaking 3-2 loss for the Alabama baseball team (24-18) at the hands of the Samford Bulldogs last night in Birmingham.
Head coach Mitch Gaspard said, "We missed some opportunities, particularly there in the ninth when we
had two in scoring position and didn't add one more. I thought our freshmen threw the ball really well; we sent four of
them out there and they all did a good job of keeping us in the game. We
played good defense, too, but we just missed some opportunities and
that was really the difference in the game (last night)."
Bama had the lead right up until a one-out, two-run home run in the ninth inning by the Samford Bulldogs doomed the Tide.
Daniel Cucjen was responsible for both of the Crimson Tide runs for the evening. He finished two-for-four with the homerun that gave Alabama the brief lead. Chance Vincent also recorded a pair of hits, going two-for-four himself with a double.
Next up Alabama will host a three-game series with third-ranked Mississippi State at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Thursday night game airs on ESPNU and is slated for a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch. Friday's game will be at 7 p.m. CT, and the finale is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.

Mahalia Swink Signs NLI To Play Volleyball For Tide
Mahalia Swink signs her national letter of intent
Alabama volleyball head coach Ed Allen is impressed with Swink and commented, "She is a very versatile six-rotation player who will provide some solid ball control on the right side. She will become a true ‘utility’ player as she develops during her time here. She hits a very heavy ball and can exploit poor blocking. She is a solid athlete with above average all-around skills."
Swink was the 2014 and 2015 Defensive MVP and two-time all-area selection at Independence High School in Bakersfield, California as well as a two-time First Team All SYL honoree. She led her team to the 2015 Central Section Championship and three other Central Section Semifinal appearances from 2012-14. Swink compiled 715 kills, 301 blocks, 664 digs, 102 aces and 103 assists during her four-year high school career.
She played club volleyball for Bakersfield Volleyball Club, leading them to a 2015 Junior National So Cal Championship and a 2014 Junior National Qualifier Far Western Championship. Swink was also a member of the 2015 18’s Silver Division Olympic National Championship team and the 2014 18s Division Junior Olympic National Championship team.
Welcome to the Capstone, Mahalia. Roll Tide!

Yes, it's pretty early to be releasing a top 25 football poll. After all, it's still quite a few months away until the opening kickoff. But, as many or even most of you are, I'm a football fanatic. Check that, an Alabama football fanatic. So I'll take some college football "news" any way I can get it.
Bill Bender of The Sporting News released a top 25 preseason college football poll, placing the Alabama Crimson Tide in the number one spot. Bender says that the Tide "deserves No. 1 until someone -- anyone -- dethrones" them.
Six teams from the Southeastern Conference made the list, including Alabama (1), Ole Miss (7), LSU (12), Tennessee (13), Georgia (20) and Arkansas (23). Alabama plays all of the schools in this list this upcoming season with the exception of Georgia. Predictions are that Alabama would either play Georgia or a second game with the Tennessee Volunteers in Atlanta this coming season for the SEC Championship. Many have a rematch between Alabama and Clemson for the National Championship.
Alabama will play the four listed above (for sure) along with a fifth in this preseason poll, the USC Trojans. The Crimson Tide and Trojans meet Saturday, September 3rd at AT&T Stadium to open the 2016 season.
