The ninth spring practice of 2016 for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team was yesterday afternoon in full pads outdoors on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields in Tuscaloosa. The practice session lasted approximately two hours.

EDDIE JACKSON has been battling an injury and it showed somewhat in yesterday's practice session. He has been limited in practice thus far, though he looked better in the afternoon session.

The same group of players continued in black no-contact jerseys as has been the case since spring practice began. However, exercise bikes and other means were again used in conditioning.

KEITH HOLCOMBE was back in fine form yesterday after having missed a few practices last week because of his dual-sport commitment. Holcombe ws traveling with the baseball team on road trips to Montgomery and Athens. He was seen working mainly with the second team.

Concerning Alabama's retooling of the Bama secondary, head coach NICK SABAN said, "I like the attitude that the players have. I like the work ethic."

The Tide will hold practices again this week on Wednesday and Friday before another scheduled scrimmage on Saturday, April 9th. The following week, Alabama will host its 2016 A-Day Game on Saturday, April 16th at 2 p.m. inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. The A-Day Game is once again free to the public, and will be broadcast live on ESPN with Kirk Herbstreit, Joe Tessitore and Joey Galloway handling the call.

Here is a look at the remainder of the spring practice schedule:

  • Wednesday, April 6 (3:30 p.m. CT)

Calvin Ridley Cleared In Fake I.D. Probe

A Sun-Sentinel article is reporting a fake I.D. investigation has cleared Alabama wide receiver CALVIN RIDLEY for any wrong-doing.  A security guard working at Monarch High School in Florida had alleged to Florida state investigators that the football coach at Monarch had approached him to make a fake I.D. for then-student Calvin Ridley.

It appears the purpose of the request for the fake I.D. was to allow another student to take the ACT college admissions test for Ridley. According to Monarch High School security guard Elvin McCray, high school coach Calvin Davis approached him in December 2014 and asking to make a student I.D. with Ridley's name on it but a picture of the student who was to take the test for him.

The state Board of Education conducted an investigation into the claims but found no evidence that Ridley was involved in any way, or that he even knew of the plan.

AL.com spoke with the county athletic director for the Broward County Athletics Association, Rocky Gillis, who said as far as he knew Ridley "wasn't involved at all."

Ridley said the coach never mentioned it to him, either in a joking manner or in a serious discussion. Coach Davis publicly denied the charges saying he believed the motivation behind McCray's allegations was anger over his son not playing on the varsity squad. Davis further stated he wasn't even at the school the day the conversation about the fake I.D. was supposed to have taken place.

Ridley took and passed the test, as well as had an outstanding freshman season for the national championship Crimson Tide football team.

Alabama softball junior pitcher SYDNEY LITTLEJOHN and freshman catcher REAGAN DYKES have been honored by the Southeastern Conference. Yesterday the league office announced that Littlejohn has been named the SEC Pitcher of the Week while Dykes was named as the SEC Freshman of the week for their outstanding performances this past week.

Littlejohn is no stranger to the SEC Pitcher of the Week award, however it is the first of this season. She has achieved the honor three times now. Last season, after tossing a pair of perfect games, she won twice. Last week Littlejohn went 3-0 in three starts with wins over 15th-ranked Missouri and two wins over the top-ranked Florida Gators.

Dykes is a newcomer to SEC honors, but it certainly won't be her last. She was able to get a hit in all four of her games last week, including two home runs. She leads the team in home runs with a total of nine.

The Crimson Tide now boasts three weekly SEC awards so far this season: Littlejohn, Dykes, and then February 29th it was ALEXIS OSORIO named Pitcher of the Week.

The Alabama men's and women's track and field teams are both currently ranked in the top 30 nationally in the first week of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) National Team Rankings. The Bama men are ranked at No. 8 while the women's team came in at No. 27 as announced by the association yesterday.

The USTFCCCA National Team Computer Rankings are compiled by a mathematical formula based on national descending order lists. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Preseason marks will be included through week three of the rankings.

The Alabama men are ranked third behind Florida and Georgia while the women are ranked second behind Florida in this week’s South Region Index.
