The Alabama Crimson Tide Volleyball team (2-5, 0-0 SEC) will be hosting the Crimson White Tournament this weekend in Tuscaloosa. Bama will be playing Troy, St. Louis and Virginia.

The Lady Tide had a rough go of it this past weekend at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash, losing its final three games after taking the opener. This is Bama's first 2-5 start since 2009.

It should be mentioned that senior setter Sierra Wilson is second in the SEC with 359 assists and less than 1,000 assists away from the Alabama career record.

The Tide will conclude the preseason schedule next weekend in DeKalb, Illinois at the Huskie Invitational which will be hosted by Northern Illinois University. Bama will play three matches beginning Friday, September 18 against Western Kentucky at 11:00 a.m. CT. Bama meets host NIU at 7 p.m., and then on Saturday, September 19 Bama concludes the weekend against Northern Iowa at 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday Football Practice Moves Indoors
In Preparation For Contest With MTSU

Our Bama boys made a move back indoors yesterday afternoon because of the rain in the area, as the University of Alabama football team continued to prepare for its upcoming game on Saturday. The practice session was held in the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility in full pads and lasted nearly two hours.

This Saturday is the Tide's home opener. Kickoff for the match up with the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders is scheduled for just after 3 p.m. CT. Not counting A-Day and the scrimmages, this will be the first real contest in Bryant-Denny Stadium of the 2015 season.  The game will be aired on the SEC Network, with Tom Hart, Andre Ware and Laura Rutledge getting the hosting duties.

The team has been focusing on several facets of their opponent's game plan, one of which is how to stop an offense that racked up 605 total yards of offense and put 70 points on the board last week. The defense will have to be poised and ready, as will the offense to be ready to cash in at the end zone if an offensive burst is needed. In fact, the QBs did a little work yesterday on the long passes, all of which looked pretty good. Incidentally, Blake Barnett was back at practice working with the scout team.

The Crimson Tide and Blue Raiders have met only twice previously. Bama was victorious in both contests. The first contest ended 39-34 in 2002 in Birmingham. The last meeting was in 2005 with Bama taking that one by a bigger margin, 26-7 in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Saban's Press Conference

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban met with the press yesterday evening.  He discussed some of the things that happened in last weeks game, but remaining focused on the game at-hand, MTSU.

Saban was not pleased with how football practice went on Tuesday but said he was happy with the effort put forth on Wednesday.

He is excited and ready to play the home-opener this weekend in Bryant-Denny Stadium. He said that not only have the fans been great there, but thinks that they can create a big advantage in a game.

The was good news as far as injuries go, in that there were no new injuries to report.

Saban had several things to say concerning the style of play used by Middle Tennessee State. He said that they will change up formations with their receivers, and do a nice job in the passing game. He said they're good at the job they do in the utilization of their personnel. He also said the pace of play is an issue with MTSU.

Though he says the QBs could have done a better job of getting the ball off when pressure came, Saban also believes Alabama could do a better job of pass protection, keeping the defense off the quarterback. He said that any time you get sackd you didn't pass protect very well.

Turning to Alabama, and Kenyan Drake, Saban praised Drake saying he was very good in space and makes the defense miss when they try to tackle him. He said that the running back was very valuable to the team.

As far as the defense is concerned he said it was going to be important to keep them fresh. The uptempo, spread offense that will be presented to the Tide on Saturday by MTSU can be draining, tiring. Alabama, however, has now gotten more experience in dealing with the type offense that MTSU will present.

LB Prospect Ben Davis No Closer To Decision

6'4", 230-pound five-star inside linebacker prospect Ben Davis out of Gordo still says he's waiting until National Signing Day to make his decision as to where he will play his college football. Most prognosticators has Davis headed to Alabama, but the youngster says he's still wide-open in his recruitment.

Davis is planning several trips this fall, including to Florida State on October 10th for their match up with Miami, as well as the Iron Bowl on November 28th being held on the Plains this year. He also says he wants to check out LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, USC as well as more games with Auburn and Alabama.
Davis did attend the Auburn-Louisville game last weekend and had great reviews for the Auburn defense and defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. He is also impressed with the Alabama defense, although he didn't get to see much of Bama's game with Wisconsin.

The young man is being recruited hard, but seems to be taking it all in stride. He says he'll be sitting down with his parents to make a decision soon, but plans no announcement until signing day.
