Tide Continues Preparation For Rebels

The Bama defense is tasked with stopping an Ole Miss offense that has gained 600-plus yards and over 70 points in each of its first two games. This Rebel team is an improved one over the team that last season posted a 9-4 finish and earned a Peach Bowl berth.
Hugh Freeze will lead his Rebels into Bryant-Denny Stadium this Saturday for an 8:15 p.m. CT kickoff, and both teams' opening Southeastern Conference game. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN with Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Heather Cox handling announcing duties.
The Crimson Tide is focusing on a specific game-plan for the Johnny Rebs, and working out the kinks that surfaced in last week's game with MTSU. Bama will need its best pass rush, run-defense, and secondary play in order to at least slow the Rebel offensive machine. The O-line will have to plug some of the holes that have allowed quarterback sacks and hurries in the first two contests.
Alabama quarterbacks will have to be more patient and make better decisions on ball placement against their biggest challenge of the young season. Saban said he has no particular order, as yet, as to
how he will play the quarterbacks for this Saturday's contest. He is looking for improvement from all of the QBs. He further stated that the coaches are making evaluations on a day-to-day basis.
Both teams enter the contest at 2-0.
Bama returns to the practice field for another two-hour session this afternoon.

Although not in the Top-30, The Alabama women's cross country team continues to receive votes in the coaches poll which was released yesterday afternoon by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Lady Tide received eight votes this week, only six spots out of that Top-30.
Bama is one of four SEC teams in the poll. The highest ranked is the defending SEC champions, Arkansas, coming in at number nine. Vanderbilt remained firm at number 22, and Mississippi State received votes like the Tide, but remain out side the Top-30.
Next up for the Crimson Tide women is a contest with the men. Both squads head to the Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. That one is scheduled for September 26th.
