Tide Gets In Final Full Practice For Ole Miss

Full practice sessions are done for the week, with Thursday's two-hour session being the last for the University of Alabama football team. Every aspect of the upcoming game has been worked on, from special teams, to defensive secondary, to pass rush and hurrying the passer on defense to pass protection, better reads, making better decisions and timing on offense. The Tide closes out the week of practice for the No. 15 Ole Miss Rebels today with a walk-through.
As far as injuries go, Bama junior defensive back Maurice Smith has been unable to practice due to shoulder stingers, according to Alabama head football coach Nick Saban. During his Thursday night radio show he said Smith would be replaces with freshman Ronnie Harrison as the Tide's dime back. That's three freshman in the Tide's secondary for tomorrow night's game: Harrison, redshirt Marlon Humphrey and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

No one has to tell the No. 2 Crimson Tide how important this game is tomorrow. It's the opening game of the Southeastern Conference for both teams, and both want to start with a win. For Ole Miss, it would mean beating the second-ranked team in the country in their own back yard, bringing down the SEC bad boys two years running, and showing the SEC and the nation they "have arrived." For the Tide it's righting a wrong from last season, showing the conference and the nation there is still a reason to fear the Tide, and continue the march for another Southeastern Conference and national title.
This will be the 63rd meeting between the two teams, with Alabama having owned Johnny Reb to the tune of 47-10-2 (51-9-2 actual). The most recent contest, however, saw the Rebels upset the Tide in Oxford, Mississippi 23-17 to end Bama's 10-game win streak against UM.
The game will air live on ESPN beginning at 8:15 p.m. CT in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Doing the play-by-play and color will be Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit. Heather Cox will once again be handling the sideline duties.
