Former Tide OT Joe King Passes




     Gadsden native and former University of Alabama offensive lineman Joe King passed away today, just over a year after being left paralyzed from an automobile accident. He was only 47. King played under Bama head coaches Ray Perkins and Bill Curry.

     King was seriously injured in an automobile accident on June 22nd of last year year when he lost control of his truck and struck a culvert and tree. He was left paralyzed from the incident.

     More will be available on tomorrow's log of his life and career.

     Funeral services will be held at 11 AM at Collier-Butler Funeral Home of Gadsden, Alabama.

College Game Day Heads To Texas For Bama-Badgers




     Oh my! Smell that? That's the smell of college football in the air. And you know it's close when ESPN College Game Day sets their first visit.

     And the week one official destination is Forth Worth, Texas...nearby AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas where the Alabama Crimson Tide will take on The Wisconsin Badgers at 7 PM CT.

     Alabama, winner of last year's SEC Championship and last year's Big Ten Western Division champion, Wisconsin, will meet in their first regular season game that is sure to set the tone for 2015.

Greatest Names In Bama Football History-Jeremiah Castille




     Jeremiah Castille was born on January 15, 1961 in Columbus, Georgia. The 5' 10", 175-pound defensive back was another one of the greatest players to wear the crimson and white for the University of Alabama.

     Castille played on the last team coached by the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant. He and his coach and the family were so close that he was one of the pallbearers at Bryant's funeral on January 28, 1983. He played for the Crimson Tide from 1979-1982. One of his greatest games came at the end of the 1982 season in the Liberty Bowl, when he intercepted three passes to help Bama to a 21-15 win. He was selected as the game's Most Valuable Player. He recorded a school-record 16 interceptions and made the College Football All-America Team in 1982.

     Selected as the 17th pick in the third round of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Castille played six seasons in the National Football League. He played for both the Buccaneers and the Denver Broncos from 1983-1988. Castille's best season as a professional was in 1985 with 7 interceptions. He completed his professional career with a total of 17 interceptions, returning them for 207 yards. He also recovered three fumbles.

     Two of Castille's sons, Tim and Simeon, also played foootball for the University of Alabama and went on to play in the National Football League.

2 Bama Swimmers Place In Top 25 In World Championships

     Two University of Alabama swimmers have recorded top-25 finishes at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia this week. Anton McKee and Kristian Gkolomeev both finished in the top-25 in their respective events.

     Speaking of McKee, Alabama head coach Dennis Pursley said, "I think it's safe to say that Anton is back on track."

     McKee, the 2014 SEC Champ in the 200 breaststroke was able to take more than a second off the school long course (50-meter) 100-meter breaststroke record, finishing in 19th place. McKee placed in the top-eight in the 200 breaststroke at the 2015 NCAA Championships as well as a part of the school-record medley relays.

     Bama's two-time NCAA Champion in the sprints, Gkolomeev, finished 24th in the 50-meter butterfly. He then came back later in the day and posted the fastest leg on Greece's 400-meter freestyle relay.
