FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – Any loss is a tough loss. The first one of the season is extremely tough. The University of Alabama women's basketball team picked up its first loss of the season participating in the Puerto Rico Clasico tournament on Thursday afternoon at Cardinal Gibbons High School, Bama was bitten by the NC State Wolfpack 68-49.
Crimson Tide head coach Kristy Curry said, "We didn't play well, I thought we got dominated inside. We got outrebounded by 15, (Chelsea) Nelson had 18 (points) and 13 (rebounds), we can't have our post players getting beat down low like that. We've got to learn from it and grow from it and bounce back tomorrow."
Bama senior Hannah Cook led UA with 17 points hitting five-of-nine shooting from the floor. Tide senior Meoshonti Knight had pumped in nine points and provided three assists. Ashley Knight added seven points while Ashley Williams contributed five.
Alabama forced 17 turnovers, but the Wolfpack continued to bang the boards and control the second half.
The Crimson Tide will fight on in the Puerto Rico Clasico today battling Elon at 4 p.m. CT.
