Alabama Crimson Tide head football coach Nick Saban was interviewed, as usual, last night and took some calls. A little chuckle from all involved when the first question from host Eli Gold was to ask Saban how practice was this week. Long story short, he told Eli he knew what the first question would be and that Eli already knew the answer. Saban said, "You know I'm never satisfied with practice," and smiled. That's when everyone got the first round of chuckles out of the way.

Addressing the issue of playing a team from a lesser division or with less talent, Saban said concerning Chattanooga, "These guys have a good team." To further emphasize the point of playing each game, no matter who the competition, Saban further stated, "It's about who you are, not who you play." And the fact that this is game 11 of the season, with (hopefully) another four games to go, including the national championship game, Saban said, "It's important for us to continue to build momentum and get better."

Concerning the performance of true freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts this season as well as last week against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Saban said, "His performance has been fairly consistent," then further commented how the young Hurts had played his best and most complete game last week. On a side note, Saban also was rather proud to say "He's never been to my office because of doing something wrong."

Saban complimented both Korren Kirven and Josh Casher, commenting that both players did well at the right guard position last week against the Bulldogs.

Concerning the players, Saban said, "We have a pretty good group of competitors on this team." Unfortunately it didn't end there as Saban reaffirmed that one of those competitors, Alphonse Taylor, may not be able to play again this year.

Everyone knows that the young men on the football team are more than just student-athletes to Saban, and talking about Thanksgiving coming up next week and kids heading home to family and friends for the big meal and holiday, the coach said that, "We try to make sure every player has a place to go."

The Bama coach went on another one of his tears, or rants as some like to call them, when addressing the issue of bring back former Crimson Tide players to help out in practice sessions on the scout team. This was pretty much addressed to opposing coaches who have made comments. Saban said, "What we're doing is legal. You just don't want to do it, so don't complain about us doing it."

Saban then went on to explain why he decided to use those former Crimson Tiders. The first former player the Tide used was former Bama quarterback Blake Sims, who was used in the prep process for the game with the Texas A&M Aggies. The coach said that the reason for using Sims was that Alabama was down to only one healthy quarterback, that being Jalen Hurts, and the Tide needed help on the scout team. Saban said backup quarterback Cooper Bateman hurt his shoulder the week before against the Tennessee Volunteers, and that David Cornwell was suffering from an elbow injury.

Once again, concerning this week's contest with the Chattanooga Mocs, Saban addressed his priority for the contest. He said, "The number one thing I want to see from our players this week is execute with discipline and play up to our standard. That's how you maintain and continue to build momentum." He also commented how he'd told the players this week that he's only happy when he knows that they're playing like they're supposed to play.

Saban pointed out that the Chattanooga Mocs fielded a very good defense. Coach pointed out that, in his opinion, their defense would probably rank in the same range as some of the defenses at the bottom of the Southeastern Conference.

In another light-hearted moment, away from the grind of the day-to-day football biz, Saban addressed the question of who were some of the people that he would personally like to meet. The coach said that he likes to meet people who have been successful at what they do for a long period of time, and mentioned people like Don Henley of The Eagles, LeBron James as well as Michael Jordan.

Next week's Hey Coach and The Nick Saban Show will be broadcast on Wednesday night instead of Thursday because of Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 24th.

Crimson Tide Football Ready To Face Chattanooga Mocs

The Mocs are coming to town Saturday, and the University of Alabama football team is prepared. The Crimson Tide went through this week's final practice on Thursday afternoon in shells for approximately 90 minutes at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility. The focus on the day was finalizing and working out the game plan for the contest with Chattanooga as well as going through special team's workouts.

Running back Bo Scarbrough will be ready should he be needed, but don't expect him to enter the game unless necessary, keeping the recovery progressing unhindered. Others previously listed will be available also if needed.

Absent from practice once again was Alphonse Taylor. In his weekly radio show, Alabama head football coach Nick Saban addressed that issue and reaffirmed that Taylor may not be able to play again this year.

The offense has been preparing for an SEC-type of defense in the Mocs. Saban commented on his show last night that Chattanooga fielded "a very good defense." He further stated that the defense would, in his opinion, probably rank in the same range as some of the defenses at the bottom of the SEC.

The game is scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. CT kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
