The boys from Bama found themselves trailing by nine points with just over five minutes remaining in the game when Alabama head coach Avery Johnson called a timeout to gather his young charges and plot the strategy eventually leading to the victory. The Tide came out of that timeout with Braxton Key and Nick King nailing successive three-pointers to bring Alabama six points closer at 57-51 with only 2:51 remaining in the contest. Key was key in adding another three-pointer on his 16-point night as the Crimson Tide ended an 11-point run in a little over two-and-a-half minutes bringing the score ever-closer 57-54.
By the same token, the Billikens were able only to muster one-for-five in shooting over those same five minutes as the Alabama defense began controlling the action. It was here that the Tide showed some real grit and determination.
The first half of the contest featured six ties and seven lead changes as neither team could seem to ignite a breakout spurt. Saint Louis took a one-point 30-29 lead into the locker room at the end of the half.
Key was the man for Bama, leading the Tide offensively scoring seven first half points in his first career start at Alabama. The Tide went 11-of-27 from the field in the half, while snagging 14 total rebounds.
Saint Louis then used a 9-2 run in just 1:52 in the second half to extend their 45-43 lead at that point into a 54-45 advantage with only 5:56 remaining in the game. Then Bama began their turn-around less than a minute later.
Overall, last night's game featured a total of nine ties and 10 lead changes...the kind of game that causes heart palpitations and an eruption of excitement at the final buzzer.
The Crimson Tide shot 43 percent from the field in the contest, with a 33 percent total from beyond the arc. It was a pretty decent night at the foul line, too, with Bama hitting 78.9 percent.
Hitting in double-figures last night were Braxton Key (16) and Dazon Ingram (10). Also stepping up big for Bama was Nick King adding nine and Corban Collins pumping in eight points.
Next up for Alabama is Charleston Southern in a game to be played at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa this Tuesday, November 29th. Game time is at 6 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.

Alabama Football Continues Prep For Auburn
It was another two hours of practice for the University of Alabama football team yesterday prior to enjoying Thanksgiving with family and friends today. Yesterday afternoon's workout was, of course, for this Saturday's Iron Bowl clash at Bryant-Denny Stadium with the No. 13 Auburn Tigers. The Crimson Tide yesterday practiced in full pads at the
Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban, offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt as well as the rest of the coaching staff led the Tide in working on an effective game plan to stop a potent Auburn rushing attack as well as move the ball on one tough defensive line. The Auburn rushing offense leads the Southeastern Conference with an average of 297.8 yards per game. The Tiger defense ranks third in the conference in rush defense.
Players injured last week continue to show improvement and are practicing for the biggest matchup of the season for the Crimson Tide. While a couple are game-time decisions, everyone is expected to be available to play.
The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers, perhaps the biggest in-state rivalry in the country, are scheduled for a 2:39 p.m. CT kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on CBS. Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson will work from the booth, while Allie LaForce works the sidelines.
This will be the 81st Iron Bowl matchup this Saturday for the boys in Crimson and boys in blue with the game this year held in Tuscaloosa at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Crimson Tide holds a 44-35-1 advantage in a series that dates all the way back to 1893. Alabama has had been victorious in the most recent meetings, claiming six of the last eight matchups with four of those wins leading to a national championship, including a 29-13 victory in Auburn last season.
Also, in an announcement made yesterday, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coaches Trophy, presented by Amway, will be on display on Saturday prior to the Iron Bowl. The trophy will be set up for viewing and available for photographs from 11:30 a.m. CT to 1:30 p.m. in the Fan Fest area located at the corner of University Boulevard and Wallace Wade Drive northwest of Bryant-Denny Stadium.
