The practice sessions are over. All that is left is the game and the fat lady.

The second-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide wrapped up practices for tonight's Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic with a walk-through on Wednesday. Final touches on the game plan for tonight were gone through, polished up and loaded for Michigan State later this evening.

Alabama and Michigan State will meet tonight at AT&T Stadium away from the elements, like wind and rain...or even storms. ESPN will broadcast the contest, with a 7 p.m. airtime, and a kickoff scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CT. Chris Fowler will be handling the play-by-play duties while Kirk Herbstreit handles the color/analysis for the broadcast. Heather Cox will once again be working the sidelines for tonight's game.

Reserve cornerback TONY BROWN will not be playing due to an unspecified rules violation (see accompanying story). Everyone else appears to be healthy enough to play.

Both coaches for tonight's contest, Alabama's NICK SABAN and Michigan State's Mark Dantonio, held their final press conferences at the Omni Hotel yesterday. Afterward the team had lunch then over to the stadium for a team photograph before the walk-through. Dinner and a movie were enjoyed last night.

This will be the second meeting between the two teams. Alabama soundly thrashed Michigan State in the 2011 Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

Tide Cornerback Tony Brown Sent Home

According to University of Alabama head football coach NICK SABAN, disciplinary action has been taken against reserve cornerback TONY BROWN. Not only will Brown not play in tonight's Cotton Bowl Classic, he has been sent home for a "violation of team rules. The leadership council was involved in the decision to send Brown home.

Brown has participated in all 13 games played this season. He is a native of Beaumont, Texas, and had 16 tackles and two passes defended this season. His eight special teams' tackles is tied for the team high. He was a five-star recruit in 2014 and also ran track.

The second-ranked Crimson Tide does battle tonight with the third-ranked Michigan State Spartans in one of two College Football Playoff semifinal games scheduled for today. The game will be broadcast on ESPN tonight beginning at 7 p.m. CT.

The winner of tonight's game plays the winner of the Clemson-Oklahoma game in the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 11th in Glendale, Arizona.

CBS Sports will present "NCAA Men of March" this afternoon. One of those being featured is University of Alabama head basketball coach AVERY JOHNSON.  The program is scheduled for broadcast at 1 p.m. CT. The program is a CBS original series.

Today's show will focus on the behind-the-scenes activities in the life of coach Johnson, pretty much an all-access situation. He will conduct an interview, as well as be live on mic for practice with the Crimson Tide. Several clips will be played from various points in the young 2015 season.

Most Of The Bets On Spartans

Despite being a 10-point underdog, most of the betting public is putting their money on the Michigan State Spartans to hand the ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE a defeat in the 2015 Cotton Bowl Classic tonight in AT&T Stadium. According to sport book operator CG Technology, four times the money has been placed on the Spartans to win.

According to ESPN.com, and I quote, "...thanks to some 'very smart money,' twice as much money had been wagered on the Crimson Tide than on Sparty, according to CG Technology vice president Jason Simbal."

So the money is on Michigan State, and the so-called "smart money" is on Alabama. In fact, the "bigger money" bet has been for the Tide to win their game and the Clemson Tigers to defeat the Oklahoma Sooners, despite the fact that the Sooners are a 3 1/2 point favorite.

Again, according to ESPN, at the Westgate Superbook, "79 percent of the tickets were on Michigan State, but 54 percent of the money was on Alabama."

It is estimated that $10million to $15 million dollars will be bet on the two College Football Playoff Semifinal games to be played today.

Junior Tim Williams To Return Next Season

Alabama junior pass rusher TIM WILLIAMS has announced he will return to the Crimson Tide football team next season instead of entering this year's NFL Draft.

Williams said, "Yeah, I'm coming back because I see all the examples in front of me, like REGGIE RAGLAND...he came back for his senior year...C.J. MOSLEY, a couple of other guys.

Williams is one of the best players on the Alabama defensive unit this season, and Pro Football Focus named him one of the most productive pass rushers in the country. Williams has 9.5 sacks so far this season.

The young man says he loves playing college football, and wants to take advantage of the camaraderie he has with the other players.

The final full practice for the second-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide football team was yesterday at AT&T Stadium in preparation for the 80th Cotton Bowl Classic. Bama put in approximately two hours of work on Tuesday afternoon in shells. This completes 11 total practices Saban and company had planned for the Tide leading up to Thursday's 2015 College Football Playoff Semifinal game.

The winner of this Alabama-Michigan State contest will determine who goes on to play in the National Championship game against the winner of the Clemson-Oklahoma contest. The New Year's eve clash will be broadcast live on ESPN beginning at 7 p.m. CT, with the kickoff scheduled for 7:10. Chris Fowler will be handling the play-by-play duties, along with Kirk Herbstreit on color/analysis and Heather Cox working the sidelines.

Yesterday was also Media Day for the team, with all members of the squad as well as all coaches meeting with the various members of the media for about an hour answering questions, joking around and posing for pictures. The squad was then able to return for the evening for a free evening on their own.

This will be the second meeting between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Michigan State Spartans. Bama took that first matchup with a convincing 49-7 trouncing of the Spartans in the 2011 Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

Men's Basketball Takes 67-59 Overtime Win

It was a hard-fought game, but the University of Alabama men's basketball team was able to take a 67-59 win over Jacksonville State on Tuesday.  The Crimson Tide was able to make a 10-0 run in overtime to snatch victory from the Gamecocks.

Head coach AVERY JOHNSON said, "This was a game that I had circled on my calendar that I was really concerned about. Even before the season, when you go and look at all the games coming out of a Christmas break, you know guys go home for a couple of days and especially if your team is in a pretty good rhythm and even though we lost the Oregon game, we were in a pretty good rhythm going into the break. So, to take off those four or five days and come back, reconvene and get ready to play against a dangerous team like Jacksonville State...I was really concerned about this game.

"We had a chance to win it in regulation. We didnt. We struggled in the second half in so many different ways. We struggled in the first half, but this was great practice because I think we are going to have a couple more overtime games probably this year and the way our team responded in overtime...we made our free throws. We did a good job of getting quality shots, so I told the guys I'm awfully proud of them."

The Crimson Tide's ARTHUR EDWARDS had 16 points to lead in scoring, as well as five rebounds and three assists. RILEY NORRIS had 10 points on the night, while pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. JIMMIE TAYLOR had 13 points, six rebounds and a season-high five blocked shots. These were the only three to shoot in double figures on the evening.

Forward Riley Norris commented on his double-double yesterday evening, "It feels good. I thank my teammates and everybody that pitched in because those rebounds in most part were just effort. Guys had their guys boxed out so I just had to go and make the play."

Bama allowed an early basket in overtime, but then went on a 10-point tear and a perfect eight-of-eight from the free throw line. Jax State was unable to score again until the last 29 seconds of the game.

Though forward SHANNON HALE missed his third straight game, he was back at practice on Monday. Coach Johnson said Hale was working back from a "private medical condition."

The Crimson Tide improves to 8-3 on the season while Jacksonville State falls to 4-11.

Alabama wraps up the non-conference portion of their schedule this Saturday, January 2nd against Norfolk State. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network beginning at 1 p.m. CT.

Cotton Bowl Media Day Press Conference

Nick Saban

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team participated in the Cotton Bowl Media Day yesterday, with all members of the Crimson Tide football team as well as all coaches being available for questions and photographs. Head Coach NICK SABAN was in fine form with a little joking around, as well as getting down to the business of the 80th Cotton Bowl Classic with the matchup between his Alabama Crimson Tide and his former school, Michigan State.

When asked how preparations were going so far, Saban responded,"It's going well. The players have had good focus. We've had good practices with good energy. So I'm pleased with the way our players have approached this game. And we worked well when we were back in Tuscaloosa. And the transition here, you know, seemed to be pretty mindless for them. And I've been pleased with the way they have sort of responded to what they need to do to play to a high standard in this game. Of course, you are always concerned when you haven't played a game for a long time, how are you going to come out and be able to execute. I think that's always true in games like this."

When asked about whether playing his old school, Michigan State, presented a problem for him because of friends and acquaintences and ties to the team, Saban let it be known it was nothing personal and they'd all still remain friends regardless of the outcome.

One reporter asked Saban about media training for the players. The coach responded they do bring in someone to help the players learn how to deal with the media, but he doesn't specifically tell them what to say. He said he trusted his players and "did not have a briefing before we came out here like what you're allowed to say and what you're not allowed to say."

DERRICK HENRY said he was looking forward to the game when fielding questions. He said that Michigan State had a tough defense and was going to be exciting to play them.

When asked if he was ready to play the game, Henry responded, "Yeah, I'm ready to play."

One reporter mentioned this was the first game since Henry won the Heisman Trophy and if this would make the game any different or change it in any way. Henry said,"No it doesn't change at all. Just another game. Exciting game."

Henry was asked what it would feel like to cap off his career with a national championship. He said, "Everything. You know, I just...my teammates and we worked so hard this whole year and just competing against everybody better. It just means everything to us having a national championship."

Quarterback JAKE COKER admitted to being angry when he didn't get to start the Ole Miss game early in the season. When asked if anyone knew he was angry he said, "Coach Saban, coach Kiffin knew. It is what it is. I think everybody knew. Went from starting the first few games to not starting. When you are a competitor and you are not angry, then there's something wrong with you."

Coker was asked what if State could shut down the running game, and it came down to his passing to win the game. He said, "We played games like that before, and I think our...when I say 'our'...everybody, wide receivers, they made plays. We need them. And it's just something that when the plays are called, we got to come through."

Alabama and Michigan State square off Thursday night at AT&T Stadium. Broadcast time on ESPN is 7 p.m. CT with a scheduled 7:10 p.m. kickoff.

Saban's Weekly Radio Show

Live! From Dallas! It's NICK SABAN!

Alabama's head football coach took to the airwaves again last night in his coach's radio show, discussing the upcoming game with Michigan State. Saban was greeted with loud cheers and applause as he made his way to his seat for the start of the program.

Saban mentioned that he was impressed with the leadership council. He said they had set the team's curfew for midnight on one night and 11 p.m. the other nights. He mentioned that last year the curfews were set an hour later each night. He said these earlier curfews were "an indication of how serious they are about this game."

He complimented the leadership of the football team. He said they have always helped the team in the right way, and if there had been any issues they were properly addressed and taken care of.

The coach said he's been impressed with the toughness of Michigan State, as well as their determination and ability to win games in the fourth quarter.

Saban referenced more recruits coming into the SEC from the state of Texas since Texas A&M joined the conference. Having the SEC Network was also a big plus allowing potential recruits the opportunity to see what the Southeastern Conference was all about.

The coach was very complimentary concerning the type of people that MINKAH FITZPATRICK and DERRICK HENRY are. He referenced the number of emails he's received complimenting Henry on his acceptance of the Heisman Trophy and called Fitzpatrick a "special guy."

Saban commented that Michigan's State's defensive line is big and athletic yet it has small, fast linebackers. He said, "This is a matchup that we're going to have to grind out for 60 minutes."

Alabama does battle with Michigan State tomorrow night in the 80th Cotton Bowl Classic. Kickoff is 7:10 p.m. CT.

The University of Alabama has a great football team, year-in and year-out, as everyone knows. This year they also show the greatness in the classroom as well. When the Crimson Tide takes the first for the 80th Cotton Bowl Classic on Thursday, a program and nation-record 29 Alabama football players who have already earned their degree will be taking the field. Of those 29, three have earned their master's degree.

Oh, and the previous record? 28, also held by the Crimson Tide when they played Oklahoma in the 2014 Sugar Bowl. Temple is second with Kansas State coming in third for the number of graduates playing in a bowl this season. And when compared to the other three in the College Football Playoff, Clemson is second of the four with 15.

Speaking of the four-team playoff, not only does Alabama have the most players as graduates on their roster, but the Crimson Tide also has the highest Graduation Successs Rate among the four. Alabama had a score of 86, with Clemson second at 84, followed by Michigan State with 66 and Oklahoma with 65.

Here is a list of the proud graduates from the University of Alabama:

KENYAN DRAKE, REGGIE RAGLAND, CYRUS JONES, JARRAN REED, ALPHONSE TAYLOR, DOMINICK JACKSON, JAKE COKER, RYAN KELLY, ISAAC LUATUA, RYAN ANDERSON, DAKOTA BALL, PARKER BARRINEAU, DENZEL DEVALL, TY FLOURNOY-SMITH, BRANDON GREENE, BERNEL JONES, KORREN KIRVEN, DARREN LAKE, DILLON LEE, ALEC MORRIS, MICHAEL NYSEWANDER, GENO MATIAS-SMITH, DALVIN TOMLINSON, D.J.      Monday was another day of work for the second-ranked Crimson Tide inside AT&T Stadium in preparation for Michigan State this Thursday's College Football Playoff Semifinal game. Alabama put in approximately two hours of work in shells going through workouts, drills, and the game plan.

There were a couple of minor injuries during the Monday practice session. Freshman defensive back Kendall Sheffield suffered some sort of hand injury. He was in some pain as the trainers and medical staff looked at his left hand or wrist and was then later allowed to go back to practice. Senior corner back Cyrus Jones left the practice field briefly and had head trainer Jeff Allen re-tape his right foot. He, too, returned to practice.

Not only did the boys from Bama have their two-hour practice sessions, but some of the defense had an early morning interview, individual meetings at the hotel, hopped the bus to the stadium for the 11 a.m. practice and then later the Tide headed to Children's Medical Center of Dallas for the team and coaches to meet and talk with patients.

Today the team kicks off the day with a 10 a.m. media day at the stadium involving everyone from the team as well as coaches. Afterward, Bama will put in another two-hour practice before heading back to the hotel for more meetings. Head football coach Nick Saban will then take to the airwaves for his live call-in show from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. CT inside the Hilton Anatole Atrium.

The Crimson Tide and Spartans have met only one time before, with Alabama coming away with a 49-7 victory in the 2011 Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

The 2015 Cotton Bowl will take place Thursday evening at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast over ESPN.

Women's Basketball Defeats Lipscomb 68-49
_______

Moves To 11-2 On The Year

The University of Alabama women's basketball team (11-2) got back on the winning track last night handily defeating Lipscomb (3-11) by a score of 68-49 inside Foster Auditorium in the team's last non-conference game of the season. The Crimson Tide remains undefeated at home this season, now posting nine straight wins, the best start since 2006.

Alabama head coach Kristy Curry said, "They (Lipscomb) really shoot the basketball well. A couple of threes they hit were between half court and on top of the circle. We know that they shoot really well. I thought what we did was make them hurry at times. Our pressure affected them. Changing our defense affected them. It's a 20-point win after Christmas. I think for most coaches it's a scary two games, before Christmas and after Christmas. (It's) a lot to build on as we head into SEC play."

The Tide was able to force 14 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of the game while scoring 11 points at the foul line. Lipscomb never made it to the foul line in that time.

Sophomore Hannah Cook led the team with 20 points as well as seven rebounds. Junior Breanna Hayden pumped in 13 points and tied her season-high in rebounds with six. Sophomore Quanetria Bolton put in 10 points and had six rebounds. Nikki Hegstetter brought down seven rebounds on the night.

Alabama was 22-for-57 (38.6 percent) from the field with 41 rebounds. The Lady Bison shot 18-of-48 (37.5 percent) and had 25 rebounds.

Tide Practices Inside AT&T Stadium; Women's Basketball Hosts Lipscomb Tonight

Sunday Practice Session
1st Inside AT&T Stadium For Cotton Bowl

The 2015 Cotton Bowl matchup between the University of Alabama and Michigan State University is only days away. The second-ranked team in the nation, Alabama, worked out inside AT&T Stadium for two hours yesterday in full pads to acclimate themselves to the venue for the second time this season, but the first for the upcoming game.

The Crimson Tide had 11 practice sessions scheduled for the upcoming game, with yesterday's workout the ninth. All of Bama's players were present and accounted for as the team went through stretching, individual drills and the game plan. The new defensive coordinator, Jeremy Pruitt, was there watching from the sidelines as outgoing DC and new Georgia head coach Kirby Smart took the defense through its paces.

On the injury-front not much to report. Kenyan Drake is doing just fine with the broken arm, continuing to practice and will be playing in the Thursday contest. Concerning Drake, Saban said, "He's been fine. He hasn't had any issues or problems at all. He's been able to practice every rep, do everything we needed him to do. I think he's much more confident now."

Drake has been the primary backup to first team and Heisman Trophy-winning running back Derrick Henry. He bounded back in the SEC Championship Game against Florida getting seven offensive touches, as well as once again becoming the Tide's primary kick returner. Drake has 347 yards and a touchdown in 11 games this season. He also has 24 receptions for 250 yards and another touchdown.

Saban commented, "I think the fact that he got to play in that game (Florida) probably helped his confidence. But he seems to have no issues at all relative to what he's capable of doing, and I think it's important because he's certainly a guy that can be a weapon for us on offense, and we certainly need a little more diversity in terms of what we do on offense. And he's a guy that can give us some of those things."

Injured receiver Robert Foster was working in shorts and tee shirt off to the side, as well as reserve lineman Brandon Moore. It is reported that safety Eddie Jackson is battling some kind of virus, but was practicing in full gear. Jackson leads the Southeastern Conference in interceptions with five, including two for touchdowns.

The 2015 Cotton Bowl Classic will be played Thursday night and is also one of two College Football Playoff Semifinal games. The winner of this contest goes on to play for the national championship of college football. Game time Thursdays is 7 p.m. CT on ESPN. Chris Fowler will be doing play-by-play, Kirk Herbstreit with color/analysis and Heather Cox working the sidelines.

Alabama and Michigan State have met only once previously, with the Crimson Tide coming out on top of a 49-7 score in the 2011 Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

This morning Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and five members of the Crimson Tide defense will meet with the media in a press conference prior to returning to AT&T Stadium for another workout. Following practice the team will visit Children's Medical Center of Dallas.

The University of Alabama women's basketball team (10-2) will play it's final game of 2015 tonight when it hosts the Lipscomb Lady Bison (3-10) in Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa. The Lady Tide won't play again until after the first of the new year. This will also be the final non-conference game of the season.

Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy both the game and halftime entertainment tonight. Area youth basketball teams will be participating in a scrimmage at halftime. The Alabama-Lipscomb basketball game tips off tonight at 6 p.m. CT.

This will be only the second meeting between the two schools, and the first in nearly 30 years. The first game was played back on January 24, 1986 with the Tide taking the win 78-50 in Nashville.

Team leaders so far in the young 2015-16 season are sophomore Hannah Cook and senior Nikki Hegstetter. Cook leads the Tide in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game. She has scored in double figures in five of the last six outings and in nine of the 12 games played this season. Her season-high is 22 points against the Georgetown Hoyas where she also pumped in a career-high six three-pointers. Hegstetter leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.6 per game. Saturday Cotton Bowl Press Conference

University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban met with the press upon arrival at the hotel in Dallas in preparation for the 2015 Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.

Saban opened with a statement, " I hope everybody had an enjoyable holiday. Things went extremely well at my house. You know, when you have a two-year-old grandbaby it makes it sort of special and unique. Especially when you see Tata, who is grandma, have so much fun. So that made me really happy.

"But we're really excited about the opportunity that we have here this week at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl. I'd like to thank everyone associated with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl who works so hard to host this event. A very first-class event, to say the least. And special thanks to Cotton Bowl Chairman Dan Novakov and President Rick Baker and, you know, the entire Cotton Bowl Committee and those who are working hard to host us.

"You know, we had a really good practice in preparation back in Tuscaloosa before the Christmas break. Now, I think the most important thing is everybody get the mindset back to get ready to play a football game and probably a very challenging game from any perspective. When you're in the playoff game with the four best teams in the country, I think getting back in the mindset investing your time in preparation, investing your time in the way you practice to get the most out of practices so that you can go play a complete game, and I'm sure it will take a 60-minute complete game against any of the teams that you would play at this point in the season, in this, you know, playoff format.

I can also like to mention that I'm very proud of the fact that we have 29 guys who have degrees... three master's degrees and 26 graduates on our team, which I think is the most of any bowl team in the country and says a lot about the program itself and the great academic support that we give our players so that they have a better chance to be successful in life.

"So we're excited to be here. We're excited about the challenges and the opportunity that we have and certainly looking forward to this week of preparation."

A reporter asked Saban about getting the players refocused, and his message to them to get them "off holiday." Saban replied, "I think pretty much what I said. It's all about mindset. Putting the Christmas holiday behind you, refocusing on what we need to do to invest our time in the preparation that we have, the opportunity each day in practice and in meetings to focus on that. And it's about how bad you want something, because it's certainly going to be a difficult game, a tough game. And I think you have to prepare for that and have the right mindset in terms of what your expectation is when the game starts, what kind of game it's going to be."

Saban responded to a reporter's question concerning the bad weather for practice since their arrival and whether it was a problem. Saban pretty much said it was no real problem for them.

Another reporter asked what Saban's expectation for the team was for this week getting ready to play. He responded, "Well, I think, if we can get our team to play their best football game of the year and a complete game, which I think it takes against a team like this...when you're playing a team that won several games in the fourth quarter, several games on the last play of the game, several games in really tough circumstances, I think everybody has to have the mindset that it's going to take a complete game and it's going to be a tough game. And the way this team plays, good defense, don't turn the ball over on offense. They don't give you much. So you got to have the mindset that you're going to have to fight for every inch and you're going to have to make them fight for every inch. And I think that's the kind of game it's going to be.

"But, as a coach, you just like to see your team go out and play their best. And you do a good job with your coaches and your players getting them prepared to do that. And, you know, if you can do that, you feel good about it. And if you don't do that, you don't feel like you did a very good job. And certainly we'd like to do a better job this year than we did a year ago."

Alabama running back Derrick Henry was up next. He responded to a question about "getting back to business" and a "routine" after the break. Henry said, "Practice hard. What we've been doing before we went on break. Same thing. No change."

Concerning the difference in this team now at the end of the season and the one that opened in this same AT&T Stadium at the first of the year, Henry said, "We're focused on finishing better. Family, great leaders."

Another reporter asked about adjustments and how to make this year better than last year's playoff game. Henry replied, "We're just going to play like we've been doing....Practice hard, you drive each other every day."

Henry was then asked about the focus level of this team. He said, "Everybody knows what we got to do. So they come in and practice and get ready to play in Dallas in the stadium."

Reggie Ragland was up next and asked about getting the team focused. He said, "It's time to get it now. All the play time is over. It's about being focused on Michigan State and coming out and practicing hard and getting the right way. So that's what it's all about now, getting it done."

A reporter asked Ragland how different this team was from the one that opened the season. Ragland replied, "Oh, it's very different. Guys are more honed in on what's going on. Guys are smarter. Guys have actually sat down and studied more and doing the things we got to do. And we're more together as a whole. After the loss to Ole Miss, everybody was talking about it coming together and now everybody's together."

Ragland was asked about how important it was to get pressure early on quarterback Conner Cook. He responded, "He's probably the best NFL rated quarterback in the country. So it's all about getting him and rattling him as much as we can. We know he's a good quarterback. He knows where he wants to go with the ball every time he has it in his hands. So it's about giving it to him and helping out the secondary. He's a good quarterback, and it's all about us getting to him and rattling him."

A reporter then asked about Saban talking adjustments being necessary for this season as compared to last season's playoff game. He was asked if he was looking to see adjustments throughout this week's prep.

Ragland said,"Of course. Coaches going to be on us all the whole time. It's about adjusting to what they want us to do. And whatever they want we have to get done even if we don't like it at all. It's about getting it done. Plus we're in a different environment preparing for a game. It's about focusing
in on what you got to. And that's what we're going to do as a team."

Alabama and Michigan State meet this Thursday, December 31st. Game time is 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Lane Kiffin Holds Cotton Bowl Press Meeting

University of Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin met with reporters this morning along with running back Derrick Henry and center Ryan Kelly. This was the first press conference for Kiffin since back in August. Today's press conference focused, of course, on Alabama's upcoming national semifinal playoff game with Michigan State this Thursday, December 31st.

Kiffin led with the statement he believes the University of Alabama football program has the best coaching staff in the United States, to which most all Tide fans would agree. He was complimentary of departing defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and was excited for him to be getting the head coaching opportunity at Georgia.

The OC pointed out that Alabama quarterback Jake Coker is undefeated as a starter, quite an accomplishment. He mentioned that it was a critical moment for Coker when he was replaced as the starter in the Ole Miss game and how he responded to that.

Kiffin said that Michigan State has "a dominant front four." The Tide must be prepared, and complimented the coaching staff at MSU.

Kiffin talked about what a great year receiver Calvin Ridley has had. He said the young man was only going to get better. He said it was remarkable how well Ridley has done given that he wasn't an early enrollee at UA and didn't get a head start on learning the plays and routes.

Talking about the "Lane Kiffin-style of offense," the OC said his style and offensive schemes have changed a lot since coming to Tuscaloosa a couple of years ago. He mentioned Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman as being a key element in helping bring some new ideas after the Tide lost to the Buckeyes in last year's semifinal game at the Sugar Bowl.

Kiffin also spoke of his early mistakes after arriving at Alabama. He said that he concentrated too much on the Xs and Os of the game, and that head coach Nick Saban helped him learn by watching how Saban interacted with players and the community away from the game itself. He also spoke of how Saban has helped the team itself by bring in motivational speakers to address the guys, and help them look at other aspects of the game and life.

Lane Kiffin also spoke of being a head coach again. He said he'd love to "down the road." But right now he'd like to be back at Alabama for 2016.

Kiffin said, "I d love to be back here. We'll have a new set of challenges with the third year of a new quarterback, a lot of great players. We'll replace a Heisman Trophy winner just like we did a Biletnikoff winner the year before. We have some great returning players to work with. I'd really be excited about coming back."

Cotton Bowl week is officially under way with the Alabama Crimson Tide football team officially having arrived in Dallas, Texas on Saturday morning. Head coach Nick Saban, running back Derrick Henry and linebacker Reggie Ragland met with the press upon their arrival at the team hotel. Bama then got in a 90-minute practice before their departure for an offical welcoming with festivities and food from the Dallas Cowboys.

The Tide's first practice was held at Coppell High School after a brief press conference, lunch and then meetings.

More meetings with the press are to be held today. This morning offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin along with five members of the Alabama offensive unit will meet with the media at 8 CT. Immediately following the Tide will prepare for their first trip to AT&T Stadium for a workout at 11.

In their first press conference Saban said, "...we're really excited about the opportunity that we have here this week at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl. I'd like to thank everyone associated with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl who works so hard to host this event. A very first-class event, to say the least. And special thanks to Cotton Bowl Chairman Dan Novakov and President Rick Baker and, you know, the entire Cotton Bowl committee and those who are working hard to host us." (More of Saban's comments in a related story.)

When asked about team leaders making sure everyone was ready to play this game when the time comes, Derrick Henry said, "We're just going to play like we always did and make sure everybody get the right mindset and practice hard." (More from Henry in a related story.)

Linebacker Reggie Ragland was asked about how to help get the team refocused after such a long layoff. He said, "It's time to get it now. All the play time is over. It's all about being focused on Michigan State and coming out and practicing hard and playing the right way. So that's what it's all about now, getting it done." (More from Ragland in a related story.)

The Crimson Tide and Spartans will face each other Thursday, December 31st at 7 p.m. CT in the 2015 Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, one of the seminifinals of the 2015 College Football Playoff. The game is at AT&T Stadium, where Alabama began this season's campaign with a victory over Wisconsin, and will be broadcast by ESPN. Chris Fowler will be handling play-by-play duties, Kirk Herbstreit handling color/analysis and Heather Cox working the sidelines.

This will be the second meeting between the two schools. The first came in the 2011 Capital One Bowl on New Year's Day, with the Crimson Tide coming away with an impressive 49-7 win.

He is the number three prospect out of the state of Louisiana, the number four prospect at his position and number 34 overall nationally.

The Crimson Tide is in need of a cornerback in its 2016 class. Four-star cornerback commit Shyheim Carter decommitted from Bama back in August.

Men's Basketball

Bama Basketball Recruiting Ranked 11th Nationally

Alabama head basketball Avery Johnson and his staff have been hard at it to make the Crimson Tide a national power once again on the hardwood. That, of course, takes getting quality recruits to commit and sign with UA. The Bama staff have thus far put together a nice group of recruits, and are currently ranked 11th in the nation in recruiting according to 247Sports Composite.

The Crimson Tide currently has three commitments for it's 2016 class. One of those is a five-star and the other two are rated as four-stars. Two already have signed letters of intent.

Braxton Key out of Virginia and Ar'Mond Davis out of Idaho have both signed their LOI with the Crimson Tide and are both four-star commits. Both signed back on November 19th. Terrance Ferguson out of Dallas, Texas is considered a hard commit.

The Southeastern Conference has five schools ranked in the top 25. Kentucky leads the list at number one, followed by Mississippi State (6), ALABAMA (11), Auburn (17) and Arkansas (25).

Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus

The following editorial, among the most famous ever written, appeared in The New York Sun in 1897 and remains a holiday season favorite 118 years later.
We take pleasure in answering at once and thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:

Dear Editor!

 I am 8 years old.
Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
Papa says, "If you see it in The Sun it's so." Please tell me the truth: Is there a Santa Claus?
Virginia O'Hanlon

115 W. 95th Street

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except (what) they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias.

There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal life with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernatural beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! He lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.
