The University of Alabama women's basketball have posted another big win, and move to 4-0 on the young season. The Crimson Tide defeated the ladies from Georgia State (1-3) last night 72-56.

Alabama head women's basketball coach Kristy Curry said, "I thought that tonight we were able to make some plays and really show some toughness. We were able to get some stops. I thought Nikki's (Hegstetter) hustle, that senior toughness, really helped us down the stretch with some key plays, some box outs and finishes, taking charge here and there. It's just a good win for us because reality hasn't been the way it's going to be. We are really going to have to understand that games are going to be close. We have to realize our mistakes, and I thought that tonight, down the stretch, we were able to do that. We nearly won by 20 points, and that's a good thing."

Leading on the boards with her season-high was senior Nikki Hegstetter with nine rebounds. She also led the Tide in scoring last nine banging in 14 points. There were three other players scoring in double figures Wednesday night. They are sophomore Meoshonti Knight with 13 points, and sophomores Quanetria Bolton and Karyla Middlebrook adding another 12 points apiece.

Alabama shot 37 percent (25-68) from the floor, with Georgia State not far behind at 33 percent (21-63) last night. As far as foul shots, the Tide had ten more than the Panthers. Georgia State had 10 more turnovers in the contest with 23 compared to Bama's 13.

The next contest for the Tide comes in Reno, Nevada where the ladies will take part in the Nugget Classic. Alabama faces Tennessee on Fridat at 4 p.m. CT, and then on Saturday the Tide plays Utah Valley at  4 p.m. CT.

Tide Continues Prep For Tigers

The Alabama Crimson Tide continued its preparation on a chilly Tuesday afternoon for the 2015 edition of the Iron Bowl. Bama spent two hours outside yesterday on the Thomas-Drew Practice fields with temperatures in the 50s. The young men are focused in their preparation for their in-state rivals.

Alabama's "walking wounded" were present and accounted for as the Tide began work in earnest on their game plan for the Tigers. Kenyan Drake and Minkah Fitzpatrick both were seeing work yesterday. Drake's broken arm wasn't wrapped quite as heavily as it was Monday, giving him a little more use of it. He was in rotation with Derrick Henry, Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris with the first team offense.  Fitzpatrick seemed to be doing well himself. He sprained a knee in the game with Mississippi State and missed last week's practices and game.

This will be the 80th meeting between Alabama and Auburn, with the contest dating back to 1893. Alabama leads the series 43-35-1. The Tide won last year's meeting in Tuscaloosa in a shootout, 55-44 to earn a trip to the Southeastern Conference Championship game.

Honors Keep Rollin' In For The Tide

As a result of the Crimson Tide rollin' on the field, honors have kept rollin' in for individual members of the Tide football team. Or perhaps it's better said that because of the individuals that the Tide is rollin'. Regardless of how one paints the picture, this canvass is bright with color with the likes of Bama running back Derrick Henry, linebacker Reggie Ragland and defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson all being selected as finalists for three separate national awards. Henry is a finalist for both the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards, Ragland for the Bednarik Award and Robinson for the Outland Trophy.

The finalists are down to three, including Henry, for the Maxwell Award, presented by the Maxwell Football Club to the College Player of the Year. He is also a finalist for the Doak Walker Award presented to the nation's top running back, presented by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.

Ragland has been recognized as a finalist for four different awards now. Previously he was selected as a finalist for the Butkus, Nagurski and Senior Class Awards. Now, he is a Bednarik finalist, with the award presented annually to the College Football Defensive Player of the year by the Maxwell Football Club.

Robinson has been named a finalist for the Outland Trophy. This honor goes to the nation's best interior lineman, either offensive or defensive. It is given by the Football Writers of America.

ESPN will host The Home Depot 25th Anniverary College Football Awards where all four of these awards, and highlights, will be announced. The show will be broadcast live from the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta on Thursday, December 10th at 6 p.m. CT.
