University of Alabama men's basketball senior guard RETIN OBASOHAN has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for this past week's performance. The announcement was made yesterday afternoon by the SEC offices. This is the first time an Alabama player has won the honor twice in the same season since 2004-05 when KENNEDY WINSTON did it.
Obasohan was selected following his outstanding performance in the games against both Mississippi State and Missouri last week. The young man averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in those wins. The Antwerp, Belgium native is averaging 56 percent shooting, and 36 percent in three-pointers.
The Bama guard is averaging 16 points on the season, as well as 1.4 steals, shooting just under 47 percent from the field and just over 37 percent from beyond the arc.
The Crimson Tide hosts the Texas A&M Aggies this Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum.

Alabama head football coach NICK SABAN has added a new defensive coach to the staff. He is DERRICK ANSLEY, a native of Tallasee, Alabama who is no new-comer to the Bama staff. Ansley served as a graduate assistant at UA from 2010-11, and will now be serving at the Tide's new defensive assistant coach.
Ansley is expected to serve as Alabama's secondary coach, according to The Tuscaloosa News.
Experience in recruiting as well as his abilities as a coach helped him land the position with the Crimson Tide football staff. Saban has been know to go after former graduate assistants after they have gained experience with another program.
Ansley was recently named as co-defensive coordinator at Kentucky. He had one season at the University of Tennessee in 2012 before heading to Lexington, Kentucky where he was secondary coach.
