EUGENE, Oregon – Oh how the Alabama track and field team's 4x100-meter relay team did shine! The squad, consisting of Quanesha Burks, Diamond Gause, Symone Darius and Takyera Roberson, has advanced to Saturday's championship final following the opening night of women's competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
The Tide won its semifinal heat with a 43.08, which was the second-fastest time of the semifinals. The time is the second-fastest in school history behind the 42.91 that this same foursome turned in at the NCAA East Regional back on May 27th. The Crimson Tide has now run five of the 10 fastest times in school history this season.

Gause commented, "I'm really proud of us for getting the stick through the way out coaches told us to. I think our handoffs could have been a little bit better because they weren't too smooth, but we still finished strong to make it to the final."

Burks finished in 11th place in her final long jump competition for Bama. Burks turned in a jump of 20-7 (6.27m). She ends her career with NCAA long jump titles in the indoor (2016) and outdoor (2015) long jump, three SEC outdoor long jump titles (2015, 2016 and 2017) and the 2016 SEC indoor long jump crown.

Four-star linebacker prospect Quay Walker (Cordele, Georgia) has announced his commitment to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide as of Thursday, June 8th. Quay is rated as the No. 11 outside linebacker and the No. 162 overall player in the country for the class of 2018, according to the 247Sports composite.

According to SEC Country, the 6' 4", 220-pound Walker commented, "What stands out with Alabama is the coaches. Talking with Nick Saban, out of all the schools in my top five, Nick Saban is who I talk on the phone with most. Me and him just connect on a lot of things. With Coach (Jeremy) Pruitt and Coach (Derrick) Ansley, too, they just stand out. When I first went there, I went with Markaviest (Bryant), but I never thought I'd be a big target for Alabama, but they're one of my favorite schools."

Walker had earlier released his list of top five schools for which he was looking to play. Besides to the Alabama Crimson Tide, he had also listed Auburn, Florida, Georgia and LSU...an all Southeastern Conference list.

It was UA football defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley handing the main recruiting duties of Walker, who most say will be able to handle either the inside or outside linebacker position.

This now makes three student-athletes who have committed to the Tide for the class of 2018. Walker joins Xavier Williams and Jordan Davis in their commitment to Bama.
